Are levels randomly generated?
I heard this game had some elements of random generation, but after starting adventure mode I'm noticing the layout of the levels I've seen so far are the exact same. Are the level layouts set and not randomized?

I guess some parts are the same for consistency, like set pieces for puzzles, bosses and NPC encounters, but the rest of the world composition and levels around those are randomized.

It seems each of the 3 main worlds have a big amount of variety, but each time generate like 2-4 big transition area, 4-6 dungeons, then a balanced amount of secondary bosses/aberrations/puzzles as challenge, then a handful of NPC/"peaceful" areas/encounters. Then a guaranteed world boss to finish, each main world have at least 2 differents.
At least that's how it feel.

For example you could have Losomn generating almost no Fae zone and be like 90% Dran territory and focusing on the Asylum/Nightweaver story.
Also just like the first game, it seems like solutions/key items for secondary reward/puzzle don't always appears in the instance/world as said puzzle or locked door/container. (They still can randomly, which is nice.)
To stay on topic with Losomn, i once saw an adventure world where the Clocktower was here, but you need a clock gear to restart it at the top to get the reward, which is found in a room full of clocks under a burning building, but it didn't spawn in said world.

So if you feel like you tried everything when trying to solve something and the world has been 100% cleared, don't lose hope, you'll eventually find said solution or key item, even if it have to be in adventure mode. And the other way around, you might have found a key item that does nothing in your current world, but might find purpose in a future world.

that's exactly how my losomn was, I think we went into like one Fae place at all; it was all Dran cities and sewers and the Nightweaver.

i feel the same, its more like "randomly pick" from 1 out of 3 maps in each world for you to play... :steamsad:

I just did two re-rolls of N'Erud and played the Abyssal Rift level twice, each time the layout was different. So it does seem there is some randomization within levels.

Though perhaps it just has me starting at a different entrance door to the level so it felt like a different layout

Worlds maps are not random, but every dungeon beyond the mandatory ones are generated from a list. Every world drop are randomly generated from a list. Every dungeon can have injectables (some random "events" from a list).

I don't think that's true. Are you sure you didn't just miss the Lemark District, which has the room full of clocks?

Because it has been my experience, 100% of the time, that both the tower and the corresponding side-location will always spawn as a set. I've also heard that some mods/tools can interfere with the world generation, and cause some fixed items to not spawn. So maybe that was the culprit?

Putting that aside, generally speaking, I think that there is only one item in the entire game that is used exclusively off world. That singular exception aside, the rule is that any quest item you find will have a use in the same world, while a select few items will have an alternate, cross-world use as well.

There is definitly a random selection, but theres a consistent logic to it.
Each world has about 3 story lines to it, so when you enter a world, you get one of the main story lines. That determines the main structure of that world for you, which mainly dictates several areas that will be chosen as well as the world boss for that version of the world.
However that main structure is still randomly generated for other elements and branching paths, you have about two main lage areas connected by one or two randomly selected mini boss areas, which also connects to three to four dungeons depending on the story line, inside each dungeon you still also get randomly selected special events.
The main world areas are also subject to random main structures inside which contain another variety of subplots, and sometimes you need your seed to align certain elements in order to unlock certain story bits and possible paths.
Each world also has a 'random item pool', mostly for rings and amulets, meaning some items you may come across in a playthrough might not be the same next time.
