If you are looking to boost your defense there are a vast majority of rings, skills, amulets and some traits to help with that.
Though personally playing on Veteran difficulty, I have not had to boost armor beyond the base to beat the game.
You can mix and match freely - you still have to pay mind to the overall defence and weight, but there are no upgrades and no set bonuses etc.
Essentially it means that when you get new armour, you can just use it straight away. Don't have to think about upgrading things.
And there are a few other ways to help defend yourself.
Nerud also features a lot of items that give a shield on top of your health so that helps too
Unless you know perfectly the patterns.
Thanks guys :)
