From what I've seen Gearbox as a publisher is usually fairly hands off. Its their development side that is complete garbage that ruins games. I'm not saying don't be wary of them but don't instantly lose faith.

as long as they don't follow behind risk of rain 2 which was perfectly fine being published by gearbox until they suddenly had the entire IP sold to gearbox and the series may never be able to have anything else done with it of value

To be fair I don't think Gearbox forced Hopoo into selling. I think they were just honestly sick of working on Risk of Rain and it being the only thing they were known for and wanted to be free of it and its honestly pretty awful community. Everything they've said on Discord points to this. I will agree its a massive shame though because RoR2 is an amazing game and I'm afraid for any changes Gearbox might make to it.
