"Anno 1404 GE... DRM free. Online multiplayer still requires an Ubisoft Connect account...
Anno 1404 HE.... Requires the Ubisoft Connect platform...
History Edition:... Do note the Ubisoft Connect client is required to play..."
Guess it can be closed. thank you.
Indeed, Anno 1404 History Edition does require a Ubisoft account to play.
The best way to find this information is in the Steam Store. On the right hand side you will see in yellow if any 3rd party requirements need to be met for that game.
Thank you for your time!

Ubisoft connect will run in the background. I just checked in Taskmanager, takes up like 10% of what Steam is using while running.
@UbiRaziel
Game is amazing guys! Its been a long time since a game kept me up until 9 a.m. in the morning. Fantastic! Also played around 20 hours in multiplayer, we only got disconnected once, but thanks to the awesome save games and load games, we where back in the game in less than two minutes without trouble.
Only thing that i would improve: the options for the multiplayer, they should stay saved as what you selected last.
Hey!
That's amazing to read, I'm very happy to see you're enjoying the game :) I just recently started playing Jurassic World Evolution after getting it from the Epic Games Store, and I just sit there for hours :)
We always want to build and improve on games every year, so I very much look forward to what we can do in the future.
You make a very valid point regarding your multiplayer settings, I'll forward that as feedback.
Enjoy your day!

Thanks in advance.
Gotta love the germans. There is a well known meme out there: "English, do you speak it MF?!" and i think its pretty accurate here, my bold neighbour.
However, he is complaining about the same that was mentioned above: "Why does it need an Ubisoft client? Wouldn't have bought the game if i knew this". Well, i always say, ppl who can read have a big advantage. You could have done a 30 sec research and you would have known. You where lazy, don't blame others now.
Also, all these Gameclients, even if Steam was the first, work the same way. Epic Games will require the epic launcher, Blizzard Games will require Battlenet, Ubisoft Games will require Uplay and so on. And imo thats freakin' logic. What did you expect? To Ubisoft & Co. develop/publish games and just give the whole package to Steam without even being mentioned? I mean "what a noble thing to do" but, just in case you didn't know, all these companies are business. They make games to make money, not to give you an universal Steam library and the ultimate quality of life. So please make up your mind and take a bite of reality before asking for the impossible.
This is a terrible decision. Please remove this completely useless requirement. Why would anyone want to be forced to have the Ubisoft client running to play a *single player* game that they bought?
Another terrible decision is to write without reading. Also it is pretty obvious why it requires an ubisoft client. But complaining has always been easier than thinking.

Being mentioned is something else than account creating + software running.
Steam takes their share but Ubisoft makes money by selling their games through steam. Normal Deal between Producer and Dealer. If i go to the shop and buy CornFlakes or Jeans i also dont want to be tied or registered by Nestle or Levi's. Of course they would like that. Customer mail adresses, phone numbers and product advertisement that the customer cant ignore......."nice to have".
My question was WHY? not does!
I see no logical explanation for a single player game (other desire on the part of the publisher), to require a Ubisoft account.
l will not be making a purchase at this time.
Good luck!
