In summary:
Step 1:
You need to go to C://Computer/users/(yourusername)/Appdata/roaming/ubisoft/Anno1404/config
Step 2:
Edit the Engine.ini file with note pad, find the line
<directXversion>0</directXversion>
and change the 0 to a 9; ubisoft were so foolish to set the default value of the direct x version to 0, this creates memory allocation problems even if you have enough memory for direct x 0 doesn't utilize available memory and isn't a directx driver at all.
so it the line should read
<directXversion>9</directXversion>
Step 3:
Save the file and reload anno1404
Kind regards
AppData is in the C:\Users\%UserProfile% folder and hidden by default. You have to enable 'show hidden files, folders and disks' on folder settings. To do so: open any folder, click on the 'file' on the top left menu, goto 'search and folder parameters', choose 'view', scroll down a small window and switch to 'show hidden...' and apply this settings to all folders. Hope i was correct
Thank you Snym. It worked for me also!

I tried what people wrote above, but it doesn't help either.
Hey there.
I'm sorry to hear about this. If all of the suggested troubleshooting steps above haven't helped then we would encourage you to submit your system files to us so we can offer further assistance.
You can reach us either through the support website[support.ubi.com] by opening a live chat session or alternatively through our social media accounts on Facebook[en-gb.facebook.com] and Twitter and they will be able to create a support case for you.
After you've opened the case if I can also ask you to attach two system reports to the case that will assist us in identifying any potential cause. The reports we need from you are:
MSInfo[support.ubisoft.com]
DxDiag[support.ubisoft.com]
Thanks.
