Anno 1404 - History Edition

Anno 1404 - History Edition

Devs removed Dawn of Discovery 1404 from Store and won't provide Anno 1404 to existing customers.
Hi,
I just wanted to bring to the attention that this game and the Venice expansion had been on the Steam store for many years under the name Dawn of Discovery 1404.

I recently actually purchased that and ran into many technical problems. I was not able to play more than a few minutes with the game filling all 32GB of my memory (with or without the community fixes) and turning into a slideshow before even loading into a game.

The devs, rather than provide this fix to the original game released the game again and removed the version I have from the Steam Store. Dawn of Discovery no longer exists on the Steam Store.

I find it incredibly bad that the devs would have done this. There should be a Steam policy that Devs must provide keys to owners of games that get removed from the Steam Store only to be released under a different name.

I'll be raising a fuss until something is done, this horrible industry practise needs exposure.

And your affected how? They created an updated version of an old game and posted to resell it. They removed it from the store likely so newer customers wouldn't get a version of the game that had issues with modern OS. Your not owed a key.

Did you try the 4GB Patch ? (http://www.ntcore.com/files/4gb_patch.zip)
I played almost a thousand hours on the Dawn of Discovery edition and from the moment I patched the exe, it worked like a charm. I agree it is sad developpers could not patch themselves their game to support 64bits OS, but it is pretty simple to do, so...

Let's say it was anything besides a video game and they sold me a defective product, then rather than fix it - fix the product but sell it under a different SKU so existing customers would have to pay twice to get the product they paid for?

It doesn't happen because it's illegal, and manufactures often get sued when they have defective products.

Steam gave me a refund though for Dawn of Discovery months after purchase - they seemed to think I had a case. Not everyone shills for dodgy companies like you.

Yes I tried that one to no avail. The problem I had with the Steam version was that it would always eat the entire 32GB of my RAM before getting into a game despite the community patches and .ini fixes.

I am able to play the game fine from GOG though, I can also do the .ini tweaks to extend the camera distance and zoom, and have the camera give more 3D control like Anno 1800.

It's called a patch and these used to be free.

How's the 'fools and their money soon part crowd' going?

If they're officially an organization, I imagine they've filed for bankruptcy by now.
