Lovely... let it to Ubi to make a "great" remaster :( could you please give me a link to that 1404 blog post? Or where you saw that, anno union or what forum? :) such a shame, hopefully some people on nexusmods will create something.
Not saying they should have used the patch, but the patch comes with extensively detailed notes on pretty much everything that was changed so they could have used that in conjunction with a patched version of the original to fix the grammar and spelling in the History Edition. Even some of them would have been an improvement.
I thought some other remasters were lazy but many of those were at least free upgrades. This is not even a remaster but for the amount Ubisoft are charging for such an old game, they really could have put more effort into it. Graphically it's fine - still looks great now even with the non-functional Transparency setting - but the original game had other issues that they have not bothered to fix or improve on such as the translation.
Adding 64-bit support and scaling the U.I. for higher resolutions is all this new version offers and that could easily have been offered as a patch for existing owners. I would wager that the people most interested in this game are those that played the original so more could and should have been done to make the double-dip more attractive at the price they are charging for it.
The UN patch had some things that made gameplay much easier, such as replenish all norias, and many others. Those could have been taken out, mostly those were ones that made crashes, IF they did that (in my tens of hours of gameplay with the patch, only had crashes due to memory leaks).
I don't think that copying the text that was fixed from the UN patch would have made the remaster unstable. Or putting some aditional tooltip text showing the chains of production.
What I'm miffed about is that they made this harder to mod. Screw their greediness for money and they unwillingness to make a great game for gamers.
The Team at Ubi said updates will be coming for 1404 as early as today. So fear not!
