Do both players have to own the game?
Wanting to play this with my friend but i am confused about this. Does the second player just download the "demo" and then they can play the full game with the person who owns it?

Yeah or you can do Remote Play and invite your friend to the local game mode instead without them having to buy it

Edit: That's called Movie Night btw I believe.

in movie night mode people cant really play simultaneously. players take turns and need to watch while the others play.
"Movie Night Mode - You and up to 4 friends will play the story together on the couch, each controlling a different character, passing a single controller between one another."

the online-coop (which can be played only by 2 people) is IMO much more entertaining, because both players can actively play together at the same time.

both options have their up- and downsides.

If you go with Movie Night, you'll see more scenes and miss fewer chunks of the story than when the parts are split into two online players. It's not a bad alternative.
