You DONT need to cut the top to save Erick
All the guides i've seen so far on the web say to cut the rope, but in one instance Rachel's new lover comes and tries to help Eric but the rope is weak and Rachel falls, but Erick is still ALIVE.

Rachel's lover comes just in time, if Merwin is dead. If he's alive, he acts as a burden to Jason and Nick, and the latter couldn't rescue Eric. So, in this case, Eric has to cut the rope, or he dies.

Right, it only works if Merwin dies.

Yeah but cutting the rope will work 100% so you don't have to bother yourself if Merwin is alive or not.

Yes, but cutting the rope makes relationship with Rachel worse (I just suppose, because I didn't do that).

No, it actually doesn't. What does though is punching him for cutting the rope after you climb out of the pit, but you can decide to forgive him.

It depends on whether Dar is shooting at Eric. If you failed QTE, Dar will be shooting at Eric as he holds onto the rope. If someone doesn't cut it at that moment, Eric dies. If Dar isn't shooting (because you succeeded at QTE), then it doesn't matter if Eric holds on.

Thanks for the information. So, Eric, Rachel and Merwin (for some time) can be saved.

Honestly I really don't like how they handled Merwin, as you put all the effort in to keep the guy alive only for the most thoughtless / low effort way for him to be killed toward the end.

This only works if you kill Merwin and cut through the cave rubble instead of going around and keeping Merwin alive; as well as making sure Dar isn't shooting at Eric. Otherwise, Jason and Nick won't make it in time.
