Well, this time the danger is no imagination
Game?
While the 1st one was good and resonable
They didn't pull it a third time.
I'll say it straight up though, House of Ashes is the best of the three games by a landslide just due to the way it handles its characters, and also has either the most memorable, or close to the most memorable pair of characters in any of their titles, Until Dawn included. Overall I found the ultimate villains of Until Dawn to be more interesting then what House of Ashes has, but not by an overwhelming amount, and god if Salim isn't the single greatest character I think they've made yet, not to mention that they actually managed to turn around a character I somewhat disliked at the start in Jason, and really have him turn around and become a favorite by the end of it, which is something all the more commendable when you consider just how short this games run time is compared to the likes of Until Dawn, giving it even more credit where its due really. While I do think it somewhat lacked in horror, at least subjectively for myself as I'm usually more spooked by the paranormal as opposed to monsters and the like, the somewhat more action/monster horror vibe they have here works well for the plot, and the ending is MILES better than both Medan and Little Hope, and I didn't particularly hate either of those games endings, they just felt somewhat lacking compared to the more Until Dawn style interviews you have here.
All in all, I'd love to get Until Dawn on PC, and its still a fantastic game all around, but House of Ashes has places where it stands out especially for the price tag. Its just too bad that we aren't going to be getting any longer games from the studio for the next 6 years possibly longer at the current rate, since they are making a season 2 of the anthology, though the next one coming up does seem interesting as I've always been a fan of SAW and mystery horrors akin to them. Won't be too shocked to see it having perhaps some of the most gruesome bits yet either considering the vibe it seems to be going for, and the inspirations its taking after.
