Task Force Admiral

Task Force Admiral

Initial Thoughts
I just played the demo and had a lot of fun with it. I managed to severely damage the Shokaku which then left the Japanese TF allowing me to hunt it down and sink it with my CAs. There was no DD escort for the carrier after it left the TF which doesn’t seem right. Also it would be good to have messages from my CAs that they are engaging the enemy and a message when they sink it.

The Wildcats seemed useless with all but 1 being shot down. I did see them shoot down one scout but not sure how many others they might have?

Lexington was hit by 2 torpedoes but only suffered light damage? Thought this would have been more damaging.

There is something up with the mouse control. If you go slow it seems to work ok but almost always eventually it goes into a 360% fast spin under and over the ship you are looking at and only way to stop it is to revert back to the Strategic Map.

Lexy probably got bombed by dive bombers. RN there is a bug where every air strike is labeled as a torpedo.
If it's trying to accurately model what happened in the early part of the war, then yes Wildcats should be nearly useless at Coral Sea. It took time and experience for the pilots to figure out how to dogfight with Zeros. The only advantage Wildcats had at that time was their armor was much heavier and self-sealing fuel tanks so it was harder to shoot them down. The Wildcat did eventually acquit itself but that was after the development of the Thach weave - which was first tested at Midway. And as soon as the Navy & Marines had better planes - the Hellcats and Corsairs - the Wildcat saw far less use.

The Japanese carrier by itself was probably so damaged it was going to be scuttled which is why they didn't bother protecting it. Save the ships for the carrier that was still operable.
Others have noted - as I have also seen - carriers for both sides seem to be incredibly hard to sink. I've had Lexington get hit with multiple divebombs with planes on the deck and she was able to shrug it off and resume flight operations. Although some of the planes did catch fire and/or fall off the deck.
