I want to love this game so badly! But...
... not knowing which spell is going to be cast when I press the button is far too frustrating.
I don't mind having to use all the spells before going back to the first one. But it's impossible for me, in the heat of the moment, to remember what the next spell will be. So when I cast it, it usually doesn't do what I would have expected 😩 It's very annoying.
And it's a shame, because I like everything else about this game!

So I'd like to know if there's a "technique", or maybe if you get used to this system after a while, or if I should give up on this game altogether 😥.
I should point out that I've already played a few hours (8+), and that I started during EA. I came back after 1.0, hoping that a few changes might have modified/improved the system. For example, it might be easier to see the next spell (as an option, of course) in a place other than the bottom left-hand corner, in the middle of all the other images (impossible to make out in the heat of the moment). Or the possibility of using the 4 directions of the right stick (or whatever) to trigger a specific spell? 🙏🏽

I have a similar issue although I haven't made it that far in my runs to where the game has hella stuff on the screen, seems like you really just need to memorize your spell order or at least have some kind of rhyme or reason to the order you have them. like for example if you have 2 close range aoe spells next to eachother then have your other ones after. Ig im just saying if nothing else just try grouping spells that are used in similar ways to help remember whats next if possible. You'll have to take a mental note of "when i see this spell come out, i have x spell next"

Every time you cast a spell, your next spell appears above your characters head. You can also press B to open your inventory, and swap around your spells to get your own specific "tempo." And finally, any spell available to cast (i.e. having not been used since last refresh) you can cycle around with E when its not used as a Interact input

Like above said, when you cast it show the next on your head, honestly you just get used to it.
The thing about choosing what to cast is that it would make it too op to cast the one spell you leveled max and put all the godlike affixes to and just forget the rest.

so

your spells are always in the same order
your spells are visible on the left of the screen
anytime you arnt in combat you can look at a more detailed description of your spells
your next spell flashes over your head when you cast the previous spell
your next spell will flash over your head red if you dont have the mana
when you get the mana you get a sound queue that you can cast it and it flashes over your head

idk they have gone above and beyond for you to make sure you know your spells. what more do you need them to do? it only takes a split second to look to the bottom left anyway.

@Daemic9 Yes I know that too, but thanks anyway 😉 The thing is I do not find this cycle thing very easy because on each run you have to learn a new cycle. And sometimes for example I would rather use spell 1 and then 3 (because they are both for crowd control for example) and sometimes spell 1 and then 2 (because I eliminated the crowd with 1 and want to target a single mob with 2). I think it would make the player feel more in control, and be able to make more tactical decisions instead of only triggering the next spell (cycling through them during combat to find the correct one is not really simple I think).

@Soul What I would like is a way to trigger the spell I need, so that I know what will happen, if the spell is available and active of course. I did not say I would want to get rid of the system that makes a spell inactive before the end of the cycle, just that I wanted a way to know which spell I would trigger 😉 But maybe I'll get used to it as you said, thanks 😊

@ZexxCrine I know all this. I just find it not to be very easy to use. In combat, I don't manage to see the small image (I play on Steam Deck) and associate it to the correct spell (particularly when they look alike). When the next spell flashes over my head, I don't remember it for long. Maybe that "split second" is enough for you, maybe you're a very skilled player, way better than me. What I need them to do: nothing in particular, I was just making a suggestion as to how this could have been done in my opinion. Sorry if my question annoyed you. In this case, you could only have avoided answering instead of being unpleasant.
I love the game, and this experiment "works", but its not really that great. The icons need to be more detailed and noticeable above the characters head. Looking away from the main screen into the lower left corner is pretty bad.

@Daemic9

Honestly after finishing some run (currently destiny 11) I can tell u that at some point the spell order won't matter cuz you will be spamming them against bosses and you will know by experience what types of spells you prefer before taking them. Sadly I think there aren't enough button on a controller to add what you want (at least 4 button by what I've understand) and for me it won't make your fight easier. It's true that spells are your damage dealer with echoes (signature ones)/aura but dodging is more important than choosing your spell. Still a tiny skill icon above the hero should be good but there is also buff information live velocity, enrage, etc so it will be too much.

I agree, never felt like I need 4 extra buttons for spells.

But then isn't that the same thing? You still would try randomly to activate it since you wouldn't know if its active/available,and it wouldn't work cause you didn't use the rest,it just seem even more annoying to do this way

I think I would be able to know, and be in a situation like the example I gave to @Daemic9 just before my answer to you.
But I see your point, and maybe you're right 😅

Anyway, it seems like the consensus points to me having to play enough to get the hang of this system 😉 And I think the devs would not consider adding this system just for m y beautiful eyes 😁 But maybe a feature such as an option to keep the next spell above the character's head (or on the top or bottom) would be easy to implement and cool because I would be able to constantly see what I'm about to trigger, and even use the cycling function more easily 🤞🏽

I'll suggest it to them on their Discord, maybe they'll say "oh yes, it's a free way to maybe embark more people on the game" 😁

Im not sure what the problem is? You select the order of the spells? You can actually move them around yourself and practice with a dummy nearby so you can get your mana back thats exactly what they for? Seems to me the game might be a bit fast for you , but in time you will get better dude :D the game isnt easy but isnt that hard once you know what style of play you enjoy. Dnt give up! I use keyboard and mouse and have finished the game a number of times , even after the update , vs'd all the new bosses and beat them all including the sculpture on the first try, but i was on a pretty intense difficulty previous patch. so goodluck my man
