War on the Sea

Escort Carriers and Destroyer Escorts.
Mostly because these were in Atlantic Fleet so I would feel the models could be lifted, touched up, and put into this game quite easily.

Due to the limitations on aircraft deployment its rather hard to get any real aircraft coverage particularly since the Japanese can use aircraft off their subs.

What I am suggesting is the addition of an Escort Carrier class at like 30-40 Command points per unit...something like the Bogue-class seems most obvious due to it's numbers and being in Atlantic fleet. Hell, even make it so it behaves like a level 2 Air base, having it's max aircraft output being 4 fighters and 8 attack planes (4 SBDs and 4 TBFs)

As for the Destoryer Escorts or even Frigates, these are less needed but would be a nice and even cheaper way (perhaps only 4-5 CP) of providing some level of ASW FOR these new Carrier class and as I said before a form of this type of unit was also in Atlantic Fleet but I'm not sure if any US ones were, may have just been British.

In 1942, South Pacific, Japanese Light Carrier Ryojou participated the battle, sunk of course.

Also, I mean, It's not enough that there are only Shoukaku Class and Yorktown Class as playable carriers. For US Side, South Pacific Battle seems not Light Carrier(CVL) or Escort Carrier(CVE) participated, but there are supposed to make USS Wasp and USS Saratoga even HMS Victorious as playable carriers.

HMS Victorious won't reach the Pacific theater until March 1943.

HMS Hermes (First full deck aircraft carrier in the world) was sunk in the battle of the Java Sea, along with HMS Prince of Wales and I believe HMS Repulse. However, USS Ranger was in active surface during this time. Not sure if it was in the Pacific during this time frame though.

Ryujo was sunk in late August 1942, so it could realistically be added to the game for the current campaign. Shoho was sunk on 7 May 1942, so while unavailable for Guadalcanal, could be added for other campaigns.

See heres the thing right, I've never considered this game to be that realistic and never thought it was meant to be at least on the level people are trying to create (i.e 75-80% failure rate of the US aerial torpedos I've seen suggested for example) due to things like how Aircraft combat is done (i.e how Avengers and SBDs are just as effective as Zeros)

So what I propose is having ships of a class that was present in the Pacific be available *at least* to the player if they want. This is because whatever the player does changes history anyway, like making a huge mistake causing Enterprise to sink within weeks of the campaign For example as stated above as a Japanese player, they could have access to Ryujo because it was there when the game starts, so what if they're actually smart and don't let her sink during August.

Or like for the Allies, give them the Ability after a particular date to have HMS Victorious...I mean hell, USS Sims and USS Baltimore are already like this. Perhaps have it so if the player wants they *can* spawn Escort carriers that were available at the time period, perhaps Hornet has been sunk and the campaign is going poorly, IRL the US would devote more assets to the region and that would include escort carriers.

And on that note, it would also be really nice to see HMS Hermes and HMS Repulse even if they did get sunk off the current map we have. I mean Atlantic fleet let us have the H44 and the Lion class for example.

+1 Atlantic Fleet had an option "Campaign/Battle of Atlantic Historical Ships Only", could easily see it being implemented here.
