Your planes may not be close enough to the enemy to spot them on the map. In the campaign you can activate tactical control at any time, even if there aren't any enemies nearby. Try getting your planes right on top of an enemy. The game does a pretty good job of auto-spotting and auto-engaging if you're close enough. Weather will factor in too. Clouds and storms will reduce spotting distance. Also, you can try varying your flight altitudes. For example, have one plane low at around 500ft, then have another at 1000ft, then another at 1500ft, and so on. Fan your planes out in all directions.

this is in the ...introduction to campaign....ive flown all my planes in a zig zag formation at different heights across the entire map with time compression on to speed things up and stll feck all enemy....im sure there are none which i have been saying all along....how can you practice with no enemy to engage?...its mental.....if they are there then its an impossable task to find them and this game is seriously flawed.

If you are running a Custom Battle, then you need to place both friendly and hostile units. And yes, of course you can place both ships and planes in a Custom Battle.

Maybe read the manual to the game and then play through the training missions first...?

so what about the tutorial battles where the enemy can not be found?
cswiger Nov 11, 2022 @ 8:09am
There isn't any single training mission called "tutorial", but the enemy is within immediate visual range of the Porter in "#1: Intro and Basic Combat".

its number 12 in the training missions near the bottom of the list..have a go and try and find the enemy.

#12 is a guide to the campaign, so you are going to have to scout for the enemy. Try looking around Guadalcanal.

the target zone which is the grey ring around the island doesn't go that far out and if the ships/planes go outside that ring they disappear..like i said give it a go and you will see.

Sturmpanzer I feel your pain and been completely frustrated myself with not being able to find Submarines in the campaign after my ships get ambushed. I have managed to destroy quite a few but cannot do it consistently. However I have found subs that are not showing on the campaign map by going to the tactical map with my planes. Unfortunately I am not savvy enough to be able to change files in the game nor am I going turn off subs in the settings. But in my case it’s not the game but the moron playing it….

Tutorial #12 is just informational, and designed for the player to learn how to use the UI. There are no enemy units in this tutorial.

ok well what throws me then is it says...search and engage enemy.....if there are none then why leave that in the objectives list.....bad work from the devs i think.

That's what you are supposed to do when you go into a tactical battle. That instruction is part of the UI not part of the lesson. It's informational to let you know that you might have to search for the enemy once you enter the tactical encounter. Lesson #12 is for learning how to use the campaign UI, and is not intended for the player to actually conduct a tactical encounter.

The instructions to lesson #12 tell the player to create Atlanta and Entreprise, enter 3D tactical to see the ships, and then exit tactical. Likewise the instructions say to create a flight of Dauntless planes, enter tactical to see the Atlanta and Enterprise below, and then EXIT TACTICAL. Nowhere do the instructions to lesson #12 tell the player to go find enemy ships. Assuming that there are enemy ships is jumping ahead of what the lesson is trying to show.

when you press start its says in the objective box to ...search and engage enemy.

Yes that's what you do when playing the campaign, but you're not playing the campaign in the tutorial. I suppose it is confusing.
