For ports I would welcome the possibility to attack docked ships.
I also have this idea of turning merchants and oiler convoys into "mobile home ports" that could perform the same Repair/Rearm function as home ports, without having to bring your TF to home port everytime you need to refill/resupply your air wings or ammo.
Let's say you fill a supply convoy with enough Fuel and Engineering to repair/rearm a TF. You drive close to your target TF, and just like you do with your home port, you'd click Repair/Rearm on your ships that need rearming, and it will automatically drain the required resources from your supply ships.
This way you could resupply your CV and BB convoys while on patrol, just like they did in reality, without bringing them back to base.
I think this can be done since all TFs are defined are objects in the campaign save TXT file, but I think more parameters need to be added to these objects so they could perform rearming on the seas. It would be very nice and realistic to have this feature added in. This way you'll need to bring your ships into port only when there are no supply ships around or when they need capital repairs.
So you are no longer forced to repair your units in the first home port. It's hard to imagine how this would work with a supply ship.
The return to base to replenish supplies is also realistic, as this simulates the fact that the ships cannot be permanently at sea.

Excellent news indeed. I play Fighting Flattops when I want a non AI player to battle against and strategic bombing is a very enjoyable aspect of that game.
