In the campaign game, if you sink 100 enemy ships you will get a message that the sea lanes are open. In the Vanilla game it is 3 times. What it means is that your weekly supply of troops/supplies/engineering/fuel are increased from the standard rule of supply e.g. 1000 troops per week becomes 3000 troops per week. This feature gives a reward to the player to sink enemy ships.
