How come the AI get OP as ♥♥♥♥ dive bombers but we don't?
A single dauntless strike is able to sink a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Kongo, and wreck a Yamato to the point where its useless, yet if I use dive bombers against a battleship, its light damage and no flooding?

Of course. Built under license here, it is known as FAL " Fusil Automatico Ligero - Light Automatic Rifle" and its heavier derivative, the FAP. Just a reinforced barrel on the original FAL, but you end up with something very similar to a 7.62 British Bren.

What I don't know is whether drop height effects bomb damage in the game. I believe than in real life, gravity-induced acceleration is a factor in AP bomb performance, because why wouldn't it be? If it isn't taken into account, low-level AP bombing might be a viable alternative to torpedoes, and I could see using a mixed flight of bomb and torpedo-armed aircraft. If three Kates could be expended to slow down or immobilize a BB so that torpedo bombers could attack it separate from the rest of the task force, it wouldn't be a terrible trade off.
1. I never tried this "high and slow" bombing technique as I assume getting the planes out of default speed could hinder its accuracy, but maybe I'll try. My experience in tutorial when you are supposed to use B17 to attack ships is poor, so I am kind of not daring to try higher altitudes.

2. 800kg bombs are good, really good. They even have different sound effects. (only used by American 1000lb and Japanese 800 kg bombs)
In the game files there are 800kg and 800kg AP bombs, I wonder which one the game is currently using.

3. I only use mast-height bombing for two situations:
a. playing as the US with buggy torpedo
b. having to deal with DDs with torpedo bombers.

4.I have tried using american 1000 lb AP bombs in mast height, it's just equally effective. I'd reckon the speed of the plane is enough to make them penetrate.
If there's any problem with skip-bombing with AP bombs, I'd guess it's the fact that you would likely hit the belt armor (though in practice I find them hit the deck anyway), instead of losing altitude acceleration.

Anyway, is your original question answered? Aside from RNG being RNG, the reason why Japanese DBs deal less damage is because they carry smaller bombs, and probably also because Japanese planes generally have worse survivability?

By the way, if you get two carriers, 24 dive bombers in one go should be enough to deal considerable damage to a US BB, if not actually sinking it.
I recently found out using Torpedo bombers and carry bombs for level bombing also works against targets as big as a BB or CV. Just five 800kg bomb hits could seriously cripple, if not sinking, a North Carolina.

Uhhhhhh yeah in terms of that we need to be very cautious.
Ever heard of a term called "Self-serving bias"? We all have such tendencies more or less.

I'd suggest doing 12xVal vs. South Dakota and 12x Dauntless vs. Yamato in custom battle. That'll be more fair and gives you the hang of it. Stuff like their respective firepower, AA, damage control, etc.
