You can set your depth charges manually on a time from like 5 seconds down to 12 seconds I think I haven't played the game in a while.

You can't do that, the time is the time difference between each depth charge launch.

I don't think so. I believe a depth setting is applied to the charge when it's launched. The setting appears to be based on the depth the targeted submarine is at when the charge is launched, so if a submarine is changing depth it can cause the depth charge to explode above or below (may still be close enough to cause damage, however). If a depth charge is launched without a target, it looks like it will be set to about periscope depth.

I'm finding that when I change depth, the Charges just decide to detonate 20-40 meters from where I was when they were fired.

Depth charge explode depth is automatically determined based on the depth of the target.

The sliders allow you to set the pattern, namely;
a) the number of repeats to drop
b) the time in seconds between each repeat

So they're not set to a certain depth once launched.

The explode depth is determined automatically at the moment they are launched.

Hey Killerfish Games, Thanks for the low down on the DC sliders. I was thinking they represented the number of charges to be dropped and how deep they were going to explode. Glad to know that the depth is set auto by the last known depth, I've seen some of my charges go off way below the target. Now I know why!
