Most games used to have a direct connect multiplayer mode. IE a friend would host the game and you'd connect to them to play vs or free for all. Only modern games force multiplayer to go through matchmaking servers and do constant patches after the fact.
Similarly game series like Warcraft, starcraft and command&conquer all thrived due to their multiplayer.
Its actually strange to me that people don't play against their friends in games anymore. Like people forgot how to lose or to handle friendly ribbing during gameplay.
I'm fine with the game not having multiplayer. But i do feel like it'll only go so far without multiplayer. AI is difficult to code such that it's a consistent challenge. I just know that realistically none of my friends are picking this game up. So it's unlikely I'd have anyone to play with anyways.
What I DO have issues with, is the trend of adding in ranked modes, and following the eSports model - that’s when excessive sweating and toxicity come into place. Since this is an RTS game, it probably wouldn’t suffer as much from “PvP balance seeping into PvE”, but it indeed is still a concern. MP development will always take resources away from SP, though sometimes improvements made for MP make it back to SP which is a positive.
For a while I’ve been getting pissed off seeing MP (usually PvP) requests everywhere, granted they do get annoying, but I’ve since narrowed it down. As long as this supposed MP mode (if it ever comes true, personally not holding onto it at all) stays away from ranked modes and eSports, we’re cool.
THEN when there is time, possibly add multiplayer - until then, no thanks.
Honestly.. i'd rather have more content, possibly DLC , rather than multiplayer.
So i'm also voting 'No'
