And then the underground fortress happened. It's quite a ramp up from anything come before. How am I supposed to survive there when everything takes so many more hits, and gains contact damage when they start their spit animation, for the fish men... The spikes on surfaces, with no way to remove them and huge spaces to leap over where I have no such ability to do so. Previously the creatures would react to being hit, and it could interrupt their action, but fish men don't care, they just jump from nowhere and then hit and hit again.

It's a bit demoralising to suddenly find a large ramp in difficulty like that, with no way to overcome it other than constantly die in frustration, until I make a small gain, or give up.

I really did love the time in game up until then, and it was becoming one of my favourite games.

The thing with this game is that if you can't do it yet, it's most likely because you're not supposed to yet. I thought it was too tough at first too (in fact it was nerfed from the early build).

If we're thinking about the same area, this is the one with the moving water and a taller platform to the left, and arrows coming from either side? The only way you can get through this is by getting a certain item.

If you already have that item, you can practice learning the attack and movement patterns of the fishmen in a lower level, and one at the mid-upper right where the platforming is easier and less crowded.

I can upload a video if you want. I still get beat up by the fish men but I don't die (as much) anymore XD

It is indeed not an easy area. The pushing water makes it even harder. Would have been better as an area for later.
Anyway, if you get full armor (so more health), I think it's doable.
You can also save up some money to buy one more healing potion in the village.

Just a minor spoiler.
You can even go back to your house to get your stuff, just prepair for a fight there as well.

Yep, it's that area and so much more. It's quite a step up from previous levels. I've taken a little break for now as it is a bit much for the moment.
