Will this game work on Windows 8.1 and have controller support?

I really want to play this game on my Windows 8.1 computer and then preferably with an Xbox 360 controller for PC. However, I'm not sure if that will work because of that the game is no longer for sale. I also heard people talk about a lot of issues it apparently has and since it is no popular game I think it will have received very few patches.
Can anyone help me with this?

You need to update the copy protection drivers to get FUEL to run, that means
Securom https://support.securom.com/pop_fuel.html
and GFWL http://www.xbox.com/Live/PC/DownloadClient
Once these are up to date, FUEL usually runs on Windows 8.1, too.

There has been a big patch/mod for FUEL called FUEL refueled by Vetron.

The game has Xbox controller support.

The securom updater/diagnostic tool says no updates available

Adding to the first advice, you apparently do need to have the hyphens in the serial.

I can still play it and GFWL still logs in and I have my saved game, no problem. I also however never uninstalled the game since it's one of my favorite racing games, I did go out of the way to back it up due to it not being listed on steam anymore. Use Windows 7 so don't know about Windows 8 compatibility. Great gamepad support, my xbox 360 wired anyways.

Just got it throught the mail and installed it. It doesn't work and I think it's becuase of GFWL. The game refers to something that's supposedly missing in a file of that program elsewhere so I thought I had not installed it. Whenever I try to do so it works for about a quarter of a second and then says the game is installed, which apparently is not the case. Compactibility mode does not help.

Yes, now it works. Thanks. I did not need the securom thing. Now that I think of it, is there any way to cheat all the vechiles and areas? I already played this game on console.

Yes, install "fuel refueled" by vetron. I think you can find it on moddb.

Personally, I preferred to do all of the races again when I reinstalled the game (twice, so far).

I don't know why they couldn't of just put a patch out when they got rid of gwfl to remove all the drm from it so it would still work without having to faff about with stuff.

"when they got rid of gwfl" -- as far as I know, nobody "got rid of" GFWL. Micorsoft may have planned it, but in the end they only closed down the game store, the DRM etc. still works (doesn't it use the Xbox live servers anyhow?).

Game plays fine, starts up, logs into windows live, plays great. As far as OP, don't know about Windows 8 because I use Windows 7.
