Games for Windows Live ( GFWL ) success in 2023?
Has anyone been able to sign-in to GFWL in FUEL in 2023?

I've spent one week trying to get FUEL and / or Star Wars Clone Wars Republic Heroes signed into GFWL (no success with either).

I did have both games working 4-6 years ago on two of my PCs, including this one.
(Both PCs are running Windows 10 Pro x64. One is the 2022 release and the other is the 2021 release of Windows 10.)

Here are some things I've discovered so far:

-It is possible that passwords longer than 12 characters won't work, letters and numbers may be the only thing allowed. Neither solution fixed the issue for me.

-Removing two layer authentication and having a very simple 10 character password of only lowercase letters and one number didn't fix the issue.

-Two layer authentication may not work with GFWL. In previous years this was bypassable by creating an app password...
... sadly there is no way to control how the app password is created, the passwords are 16 characters long which may be why it won't work with FUEL or Star Wars Clone Wars, some users reported in previous years that the password limit was 12.

(I tried generating seven different app passwords, none of them worked with GFWL Marketplace, FUEL, or Star Wars Clone Wars but they did later work for other programs such as checking email in a legacy app.)

-Some users talked about using GFWL Marketplace to sign-in and then tell the program to save their credentials, this may let the game auto sign-in. There's a registry fix needed to get GFWL Marketplace to load. Once that was fixed I was able to get GFWL Marketplace to launch but unable to sign-in. Some forums indicate logging in to GFWL Marketplace was shutdown in 2022.

-Logging in with the correct password four or more times within a one day period didn't succeed in getting GFWL connected but did trigger Microsoft to lock my account out. I would then use the exact same login info to get back in and went through the required password reset yet again.

-Removing GFWL Marketplace and GFWL and installing various other versions didn't work either. I wasn't having any issues getting GFWL or GFWL Marketplace installed, there are several valid, clean, and working sources for those installers. The installers that come with either game worked fine as well for me on Windows 10.

I got it working, I have a long password and 2FA still on to boot!

I needed to go to the legacy Control Panel that you can still access in Windows 10.

Then navigated to:
Control Panel \ User Accounts \ Credential Manager \ Windows Credentials

There were around 85 tokens that said:
"Xbl|20.....Dtoken|http://auth.xboxlive..."

I deleted all the saved tokens (unconcerned about if something went wrong because I have automatic full system backups--be very careful here if you don't know what these are for) and then logged into the Microsoft Store, Xbox Metro App, and then finally reopened Star Wars Republic and FUEL.

Once I typed in my email it automatically populated a password that is under 12 characters (from the Windows Credentials vault) and then I logged in with that.

This time I had a popup at the bottom that said I'd logged out. Progress!

It still failed to login but what I did was keep trying, without changing the password that was already populated once I put in my Windows Live email.

After about 3 or 4 more tries it finally downloaded my profile and logged me in fully!
