More games like FUEL and Powerslide?
Does anyone know of more games like FUEL and Powerslide?

I'm looking for driving games that are open and allow you to drive nearly anywhere, provided you have enough horsepower or figure out how to get there.

I posted a short review for Spintires somewhere on this forum; you should wait for it to be at least 50% off since the UK publisher, Oovee, are not very customer-friendly (and not very developer-friendly either, if Pavel, the sole, Russian developer is to be believed).

I have yet to try Mad Max (ask me again in a week); it's fairly new but has been on sale variously already (50% off on Indiegala atm). If you buy on Steam, make sure you don't accidentally buy a movie instead.

The Crew is pretty awesome as well; huge map, but needs Uplay (which seems to work better than GFWL, but still...). Then there's Test Drive Unlimited 2 (are the servers still up?), NFS:World has been shut down, but I liked Need for Speed:Undercover; it's open world, but you can't go offroad. Burnout Paradise is similar, though it feels more open than NFS, actually. GTA, maybe? Battlefield 4? I think on Rage and Damnation driving takes even more of a back seat, but I haven't played much beyond the intro on these.

If you want to go even more back in time and get postapocalyptic again, definitely try Hard Truck Apocalypse (also called Ex Machina) and its sequel, Rise of Clans. Open-World, offroad, trading on trucks equipped with guns and an optional story which works pretty well and has plenty of athmosphere. I think you might need to delete some cutscene videos on that to get it to run, but it's cheap and absolutely worth it.

P.S.: Insane 2 has levels, but they're open as well. There's no freeride, though (not sure if powerslide has that); all of my recommendations above do have freeride.

P.P.S.: Early Access: BeamNG drive is supposed to be Open World; DiRT Rally is not (as far as I know), but it looks awesome. :cwat:

Mad Max has the driving/racing that reminds me of Fuel.

Wow thanks for such a thorough list mendel. I was able to find FUEL, since it is no longer on the Steam store, greenmangaming still has it for sale as a Steam key. I'll check out Hard Truck Apocalypse and Insane 2. The Crew and Mad Max interest me as well.

Insane 2 brings up a good topic, open world within the level is good too.
