My 3 speed transmission has 5 gears? +Broken RPM UI
For some weird reason, a wonky car i made using a 3 speed transmission thinks it has 5.

It automatically shifts from 1st all the way to 5th. It even shows the 4th and 5th gear in the UI.
The thing is, it basically shifts BACK:

1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 (which is the same as 2nd because it shifts back) -> 5th (the same as 3rd)

Do add to all this, the RPM meter stops at 2600RPM.
The Entire RPM meter itself seems broken, as it goes up to 9k RPM even with engines that spin to 5700 Maximum.
Something doesn't feel right about gear rations either, they seem off.

If anyone has these things happen too, let me know

so it basically shifts 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 2(4) -> 3(5) ?

are you sure about the ratios?

cause as far as i have seen the game just checks the various gearings and picks whatever gives the highest torque at that RPM. So ff you have 3 shifters then there are indeed 8 possible gearings to choose from - just most likely you have the same 1.6:1 in the system twice so it will only result in 5 actually diferent ratios.

I have experiences the same thing, with a three and a two gear shifter, I got 8 gears in the end.
I also found one of the ways the gearing can be broken: If the "first" gear is not the slowest ration, it creates problems with two gear boxes and the gearing.
The gearing with multiple gear shifters also sometimes creates two gears with the same, or mostly the same gear ratio.

Yep.
But because 4th is the same as second, it skips it most of the time.
So 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 5 (3)

The ratio is rather unrelated, it just feels like the gears don't get the same ratio as they visually (by tooth count) should.

Well yes - the tooth-count sadly is NOT the ratio for he gears.

I've had that happen when I accidentally had the back wheels and the forward wheels going at different speeds. The back wheels were connected in some funky way that had an extra gear reduction in it compared to the front ones. Once I removed that extra gear reduction it started behaving normally.

I think this may also happen when you have a hybrid setup... I think the game gears for the electric motors in 1, 2, and 3, then turns them off and does 4 (2 again) and 5 (3 again) for just the combustion motors... but I'm not totally sure...
