High Rank Monsters Questions
So, I just got into the high rank post game and now there are the opportunities to get "high rank" monsters and dens. Obviously all of the monsters I built in the low rank game basically are useless right now, but I'm just wondering, what decides if a monster is HR or LR, because looking at them from the stables the only determining factor seems to be their gene makeup. There is no indicator as to whether or not a monster is HR or LR and if it is only based on gene makeup, does that mean a LR monstie can be converted to HR if you give it all XL genes? (XL genes seem to be the only factor I can determine so far that designates a monstie as high rank). Thanks for the info!

Your monsters won't be useless unless you are under leveled. Your character will suffer a little bit but can be compensated by feeding the Nutriments to your character to buff your attack and defense stats a bit.

Fact is Monsters like White Monoblos, Brute Tigrex, Zinogre, all of the Blos family, and quite a few others are all pretty much top tier compared to even late game Monsters besides some Elders and Deviants.

You can even take on end game monsters with an Aptonoth!

The only difference between a LR and HR Monster is that the HR has a higher level and stats. This does not translate to eggs besides a better chance for HR and SR Dens to give out the higher tier genes.

So what determines or purpose is there for high rank then? Because I've fought a few HR fights with a power packed LR Anjanath at level 50 and I was almost one-shotted and that's with him having medium and high level genes.

HR is like all other MH Games. New Monsters and Subspecies, Elder Dragon Hunts, etc.

It's basically the game's + Mode.

If your Anjanath is nearly getting 1 shotted you may need to add 10 Defense Nutriments to him so he gets that bonus 50 Defense Stat. Also look at Elemental Weaknesses. You don't wanna take a hit from an element you are weak to as the bonus damage can be significant and your defense stat is basically halfed as well!

you're never going to be able to tank a bunch of hits in this game. It's just not designed that way at all. You're meant to stop the enemy from attacking with head to heads/double attacks.

Well you CAN but the build will lose a lot of power. You can take a Gammoth or Gravios and load them with All Elememt Def Up and each of the Elememt Def XL genes, toss in a Divine Blessing XL and Health Boost XL and have a single slot for maybe Arachnophobia and you would have a pretty beefy Monstie....

But that's going pretty extreme on Def!

Might have Value for PvP though :D If you throw in a high level Heal Skill.

There are no HR eggs, just so that's said. Your monsters are as strong as their level and genes, that's it. HR dens contain better gene eggs on the virtue of being rarer monsters, but none of that invalidates your previous monsters, you just have to update their genes with better ones.

Well on this particular build I would do Self Heal XL instead of Health Boost and toss in Icicle from Velkhana for a Non Type attack
