Report a translation problem
First thing to look at are the skills, particularly for armour. Assuming you intend to avoid most hits by winning clashes to begin with the actual defence value isn't that important, though it's elements can be (higher poison defence for example means less chance you'll be affected by poison even if you take damage). Skills are also important; if you want to cripple monsters quickly for example you probably want to stack part breaker.
Similar applies to weapons. Bear in mind even if it does have a high attack, if that attack is predominantly elemental there's going to be some monsters it really hurts and others it'll barely even scratch. There's also some inherent differences - for blunt damage you can go hammer, which tends to be high damage with skills that usually improve that damage, or you can go for an instrument which is lower damage, but tend to have skills geared towards buffing and healing your party.
One thing worth noting is like unlike the main MH games, you can switch equipment via the camp menu virtually anywhere outside of combat, so if you really want to play with builds you can carry the equipment around and just switch as the situation requires.
I usually just use the raw attack / defence figures to be fair. I think most of the useful information is actually hidden. When it comes to monsties though I'm generally finding the type and hit point pool are the more important traits; what I'm usually looking for is one that consistently picks a given attack type to maximise the dual attack bonus and neutralise enemy attacks as much as possible. Boosting attack and defence and tweaking it's genes is more of a long term thing - first thing I want to know is whether it's going to consistently use strong attack or if it'll randomly switch to technical in the middle of a battle.
Selecting a gene will tell you what abilities it confers. Whether you can do that outside of the channelling screen I don't know.
they could have done like normal MH that new weapons are upgrades for the already existing ones and the new forms are just a path for better weapons but instead we have weapons like the first iron ones that are completely useless by the end of the second region and i wish we had more weapon types like the insect glaive...
Their stats doesn't matter much considering elements and etc....most comes from level as the developers said the velocidrome you get in the beggining of the game can be useful at the end of the game, personally i am saving all stat boosting items and focusing on genes and the mosters that i just really want to have like my beloved B-52 the only monstie i want 100%(probably Val Haazak as well but i doubt it is in this game)
Gene is just getting the description it is on the right inferior side of the screen that shows what each gene can do
