I recently got into HoM and I wanted to ask if I can get back to the ZOMG arena by losing or is it now only based on the top 100 players leaderboard? In short: Can I lose trophies?

HoM isn't just the top 100 players. The "trophy" system is just to see which players are actually good enough at the game to get some serious competition. By reaching 100 trophy points, you will be only facing HoM players for the rest of the season. There is no way to "downgrade" from HoM, except at the end of a season.

so basically you dont lose trophies but instead you have "elo" which is gained/lost from winning/loosing matches.

ahhh so If I understood that right I cannot lose trophies until the start of a new season but instead I lose/gain elo.

Not exactly. When you are playing normal arenas, if you lose, you lose a trophy point. When you reach HoM, you cannot go out of HoM until next season, even if you lose 20 times in a row
