Baldi's Basics Plus

Is it Offensive to Call Gotta Sweep a "Broom"?
I find myself calling him Broom a lot whenever shows up and ruins my runs. In my head I always say "That dang Broom!" when he pushes me away from stuff, even though I know he is a hard working broom named Gotta Sweep. I also find myself calling Cloudy Copter "Cloud" too, primarily for the same reason. (I just remembered now that I also call Arts & Crafters "Sock" whenever he teleports me.)

Chart, am I offensive towards sentient objects?

I mean, it's not racist. It would be "specist", if that's a word. Even so, your average Joe isn't going to be offended if you call them a human, so it's probably not offensive to call a broom a broom or a cloud a cloud.
Follow up question: Would it then be racist if you refer to a specific type of broom rather than just "a broom"? (Like different brands of brooms)
I mean, racism is defined nowadays by humanity. I can’t speak for broomkind. Maybe they’re chill, maybe they’ll rip your tongue out.

As a part of your "Chart", that would be the equivalent of calling you a human. Personally, I wouldn’t really be offended, but it may vary from person to person.

I was mostly poking fun of when streamers call people "chat".

Let's be real here, are they sentient? Gotta Sweep only says 2 things ever, for all we know there could be a preprogrammed speaker within him that activates upon any pressure with the bristles, and he could realistically just be driven along a track.

Also, my dog does more than blow wind down a hallway, and I don't think we call him sentient.

That would be like saying that you're an AI because we've never met in person.

3 things if you include Birthday Bash's "SURPRISE" voiceline

anyways; sentience is the ability to experience feelings and sensations and is not a measure of intelligence. considering that Gotta Sweep responds to people physically walking into him, assuming he's not a robot, that would make him sentient
_ additionally, the fact GS has a "greatest life achievement" (src[baldis-basics-in-education-and-learning.fandom.com]) could be used to imply that he's capable of feeling emotions like pride/accomplishment, something that comes with consciousness

it's much less clear where Cloudy is in terms of intelligence, but they do at least seem to respond to stimuli (fleeing if their wind gets interrupted and avoiding obstacles) so they are likely sentient as well

Then why not call Gotta Sweep an AI? An AI is certainly capable of doing things that Gotta Sweep does.

I wouldn’t set the bar so low as to experiencing emotions and responding to stimuli - plenty of animals can do that as well. In fact, responding to stimuli is one of the 7 characteristics of life. Granted, a lot of complex emotions we as humans feel cannot be felt by animals, but still.

Also, your set term of “assuming he’s not a robot” is debatable in this case. We know robots exist in the BB universe (1st Prize is a prime example of this). For all we know, he could be one.

idk what to tell you, I even made sure to double-check that I wasn't mixing up words (since a similar word, sapience, exists) and the definition is indeed along the lines of "capable of sensing or feeling[www.merriam-webster.com]"

I only mentioned "assuming he's not a robot" because you brought up the implications of mechanisms controlling how he moved and responded to things. so assuming those mechanisms aren't in place and he himself is experiencing and responding to those stimuli, he is by definition sentient
gotta sweep can avoid copyright law

Technically, all characters are AI because it's a video game.
I've got pretty lame evidence to disprove this. In his detention poster, it's confirmed that Gotta Sweep is a broom. Also, if Here School couldn't find a janitor immediately before school starts, I doubt that the school is able to build a robot in such a short time-span. Then again, Baldi is an inventor...
(I don't know I just came up with these on the top of my head.)
