I mean. considering the demo is used to give backers access to the pre-releases, it sort of is? I suppose you could try to use the steam console to get the demo back but point is you can't just boot it up anymore lol

Well, the Kickstarter demo was replaced with the V0.4 Pre-release a week before V0.4 came out, but I don't know if the original listing for the original Demo is still up.

...y'know, I forgot Patreon users got the pre-releases via a .zip file and not through Steam, so the whole "downgrading to the demo" thing shouldn't even be relevant to them- even if you add it to your Steam library as an external program the app ID wouldn't be the same afaik, so I don't see how Patreon members could access the demo like the wiki implies is possible

and although I did eventually figure out how to download the demo via console (I was getting confused because I couldn't find any mention of the kickstarter demo in the files), the only Manifest ID listed on SteamDB for the demo is for Windows- meaning Mac and Linux users can no longer access the demo either (at least natively)

I think because it's simply easier than having to go back and create brand-new categories specifically for them - and technically speaking it was updated. Or at least, replaced.

It's probably simpler to do that, and maybe it makes it more clear that the pre-releases are for Kickstarter/Patreon only, as they fall under the category of "Kickstarter Exclusive Demo".

I suppose all this is to say that even if Patreon members didn't have access, I still wouldn't consider the prereleases as an update to the Kickstarter demo since the intent differs. the KD was a more complete demo as a reward for backing the Kickstarter (that didn't reflect how the public product would look), meanwhile the prereleases are basically just "hey, as a thank you for your support before, want to access the next update a week early?"
