Baldi's Basics Plus

Baldi's Basics Plus

The ultimate event tier list!
Since the whole “talk about The Test” thing didn’t fix my costume problem, I figured talking about the events would! I mean, how on earth do you give a costume to an entire event? (Don’t challenge me on that though, you have no idea what I’m capable of.) I guess I did give a costume to the mystery room, but that was just a room, not an event. And since I’ve already talked about the mystery room, I have no need to talk about it in depth here, and thus no desire to give it a costume. The only other event tied to a room is the party event, and that already gives it a costume so I’m free.

Alright starting with the very worst event, at the bottom of D-Tier, we’ve got the gravity chaos event. Now before you go around disagreeing with this placement, I’ll have you know that the only reason the gravity chaos event is at the bottom of the list is because of motion sickness. An event making some people unable to properly enjoy the game should automatically go to the bottom of the list, regardless of quality. There should obviously be an option to just have the screen automatically flip, but even that would still affect some people negatively so I think you should also add an option to just disable the event entirely.

That being said, where would I place this event ignoring that problem? Weeeeeell only above the other event in this tier. Listen, it’s not like I don’t like the event. I think flipping the player all around is a really fun concept, and the fact that this leads to making the school more confusing to navigate as well is also really fun. The characters also getting flipped is really fun and interesting as well. (Although the fact that conveyors still push you while you're upside down is really lame.) It’s just that this event has two issues that really hold it back.

The first problem is with the orbs that flip you, they’re so big that they completely block your vision. Why? Is it to add to how hard it is to navigate the school? Because that’s completely unnecessary. Even when there are no orbs in the way, even when I’ve double checked the map, even when I still have the simple map open while I’m walking, I still get turned around all the time while I’m upside down. You don’t need them like this, it just makes the school more annoying to navigate, and buffs sightline based characters because you can’t see them coming, for no reason! The orbs should either be made smaller, or transparent, because them blocking your view adds nothing to the event. (I’d prefer that second option by the way.)

The second problem with the event is the length. Like I said, it’s a fun concept, however, it can easily get old fast, it's definitely something you want to experience in a small dose. Once you’ve been flipped constantly for about thirty seconds you’re like, “okay, I get it, put me down now,” but then the event just keeps on going. I don’t know the exact amount to shorten it by, maybe make it so that it’s like, forty seconds? I could be making a fool of myself here since I don’t actually know exactly how long the event lasts, this time could be just barely shorter than the event currently is, or even longer! (I do have trouble with judging time, I find myself constantly thinking it's later than it is.) All I know is that the event definitely needs to be shortened by some amount.

Enough about that event, let’s move on to what I think is the worst event outside of accessibility, the test procedure. The test procedure event is awful, it’s just awful, there’s nothing redeeming about it. I guess the reasoning behind all the doors is kinda funny, but that’s it. I assume the intention of the event was to make players and characters go down a different route than intended, potentially having a drastic effect on the run, but what usually happens is, A. You go down a different route and there are pretty much no consequences. B. A character (or Baldi) that was harassing you gets blocked, and that’s just kind of nice. C. You just end up waiting the event out. D. You just get completely screwed which sucks. Or E. Very rarely something interesting comes of the event. I’m not saying this event can’t do anything interesting, it’s just that 99.99% of the time it’s just annoying or barely impactful. Everytime I see this event, I just groan because it’s pretty much always just a waste of time. I’ve literally NEVER had a good experience with this event, it’s either annoying, or nothing.

I honestly think this event should just be removed, I’m being serious. I know Micahs stated that he wants to aim for at least fifteen events, and if removing this event would mean that we only get fourteen, then I’m okay with that. I’d much rather fourteen good events, than fourteen good events and one bad one.

Moving up out of D-tier and into C-tier, we’ve got the broken ruler event. Now this event is a fun idea, losing your ability to hear Baldi seems like it would be a big deal, but it kind of isn’t? What I mean is, when I get this event, I usually already know where Baldi is, and where he’s going to go. That’s just how I play, most of the time, I don’t need to know exactly where Baldi is since I’m already playing around leading Baldi along a specific path. I don’t think this event is bad or anything, it definitely does still affect me in a major way occasionally, I just think this might be a scenario where this event doesn’t really clash with my playstyle, so this is moreso a completely subjective placement.

Next up in C tier is the mystery room event, I’ve already given the mystery room it’s own post, but to summarize. I think the room is too easy to get too for the reward it presents, I think the items that appear in the room should be nerfed to semi rare items. (i.e. The portal poster.) As well as to nerf the dangerous teleporter to only teleport you places within a certain radius around you so that it fits in with the difficulty of the room.

Moving up to B tier we’ve got the flood event. The flood event is a pretty fun event, I like that it allows you to move around the school more quietly, what I don’t get is why it doesn’t also affect yellow doors? Maybe it’s to make the event more balanced, but I don’t think it would be that bad. As for the whirlpools, I don’t like how hard it is to get away from them once you’re in their pull, as soon as you're anywhere near them you’re basically already caught. This is compounded by the fact that once you get caught by a whirlpool, you’re very likely to spawn next to another whirlpool that you also can’t escape from, at that point you’re pretty much just on Mr. Beans wild ride. Even if you had the ability to escape, if you’re not near where you want to be, you might as well just go into another whirlpool and hope you appear somewhere good anyways because trying to get back normally will probably just lead you into more inescapable whirlpools. As well as the fact that since yellow doors don’t also open, you’re likely to throw away the fact that Baldi doesn’t know where you are. Plus Baldi could just teleport near you anyways, so you might as well just try to ride the event out in the whirlpools .I think whirlpools should be nerfed so that you can more easily run from them, so that while you can escape from them, they still pose a threat to you, and so that 90% of the times when the event comes up, you don’t just end up sitting in whirlpools the entire time and can actually move around and use the event to your advantage.

Next up in B tier we’ve got the fog event. I don’t really have much to say about the fog event, it’s an okay event with no problems or anything extraordinary about it, and that’s it. Good execution, good presentation, let’s just move on.

And finally, the only event in A tier, the best event in the game, we’ve got the party event. The party event is pretty much everything you’d want out of an event, it presents a new option to the player, as well as giving a unique challenge at the same time! It’s got great presentation, it’s super fun, there really aren’t any flaws with it. I mean, I guess there is a cute detail you could add, it would be really small and unnecessary, other people have already mentioned it so there isn't even any point in me bringing it up but… I just think… It would be really cool if… IfyougaveeverycharacterthatattendstheeventcoollittlepartyhatsandIruineditdidn’tI? DAMMIT! Oh well, at least I didn’t end up giving costumes to entire events. Yep, good thing that didn’t happen. I should probably stop talking before I do that.

Here’s the full list.

A: Party
B: Fog, Flood
C: Mystery Room, Broken Ruler
D: Test Procedure, Gravity Chaos

And maybe you could share your own tier list of all the events in the comments oh please do that don’t let this be a repeat of the characters tier list catastrophe. (That character tier list video is still totally happening by the way, for all the people that are waiting with bated breath, it’s definitely not canceled because of incompetence or anything.)

I was hoping this tier list wouldn't also include suggestions for changes (makes for a lot more to read and I feel tired,) but I'll throw in my own tier list as well ^^'' (this is based off how I personally feel about the event, not necessarily how "good" or "bad" they are)
Nice: Party
Good: Gravity Chaos, Broken Ruler
special in-between: Mystery Room
Fine: Fog, Flood
Meh: Test Procedure
- Party's good even if I don't always attend,
- Gravity Chaos is surprisingly helpful outside its many ways of making it hard to see where you're going, and it's seemingly inspired by the Win95 3D Maze simulator- nostalgic!
- Broken Ruler is a nice change of pace, and it lets me run past Baldi with little to no punishment
- I also commented on the Mystery Room before.* eventually put it in its own section because while I quite like it more than the fog or flood event, it's more like an "oh, cool" thing than a "great! this can help me a lot!" sort of thing
- Fog has a nice sound and reduces everyone's vision, not much else to it.
- Flood is helpful for getting away, but it's super loud and is understandably harder to escape during. just personally don't like this one that much
- Test Procedure- I like this event alright but it helps the least so [*shrug*].. I think it's fine but not the same level of 'fine' as the other events so I had to put it lower

*for Mystery Room, I think it should be harder to reach the item or even stay in the room so there's a challenge and you can't camp inside to wait out danger where nobody can reach. also said the current difficulty feels like it may be more fair to swap Party and Mystery spawn pools, but Dangerous Teleporter suggests MR was meant to be harder to get to in the first place

since suggestions are apparently part of the post and the Gravity Chaos event is very 3D maze-y, shrinking the shapes may be in order to both be more fair and accurate- but not making translucent since the grey shapes were solid. if they remain in the center of the hall and are the right size, it will let you see past just fine while still obscuring your view some (plus it fits the style better since translucent geometry wasn't common back then iirc)

flood is loud, and honestly the whirlpool strength I would be fine with if Big Ol' Boots were more common since that'd prevent you from being pulled entirely. whirlpool strength (and spawn rates too** iirc?) was already nerfed some- they're still strong but not totally inescapable if you notice you're in one's pull soon enough imo. we can all agree whirlpool chains aren't fun tho :p

**if spawn rates weren't nerfed, then I'm thinking about the one version where they were super common due to having the spawn rate upped for testing purposes and it accidentally being left that high
