Patch and joining game on GameRanger Problems

So as the title says im having problems with the patches. Ive downloaded all of them: 1.1, 1.2 1.3... but when i click on the .exe fille and it runs on the wizard, it loads and then says:

"This setup has detected no version of GRID is installed. This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed"

Also the reason why i'm doing these patches is because I heard that it helps for online to work on GameRanger. I had problems with that too, when I press join, it would go into the GRID but only take me to the main menu and not the lobby menu.

I loved this game on Xbox, just really want it to work on my PC since I sold my 360, so if anyone can help that would be great,

As I recall from the old forums, you have to install patch 1.3 on a clean install. In other words, if you have another patched version of GRID installed, you must uninstall it, install the game again, then install patch 1.3.

I presume you're installing the Steam download. My GRID is the old disc install. Steam is the only thing different that I'm aware of. What are your rig specs?

If you have the Steam version, it should be updated already.
If not, then the registry key is not there and the patch will not find the game if the game's intall path is not in windows registry.

I'm assuming your game is not a Steam version. I don't know anything about GameRanger and not much more about Steam, but It sounds to me like you have the Windows install and you're here because there is no Codies GRID forum for now. If the problem is in the registry, I would try uninstalling the game again, then run CCleaner including the Registry clean. Restart. Then install GRID again. Then the v1.3 patch again. The game should run properly. If not, then you know the problem is with the game and not with GameRanger. If the game does run you're safe to go to the next stage with Game Ranger. Any further problems after that should be taken up with GameRanger.

Not sure how large the GRID community is at GameRanger, but you might want to also check out the GRID community at tunngle.net. They also provide online GRID racing, through LAN, and some of the old GRID fans are there.

Thanks for advice, i'll be trying this right now. And yes I do use steam for the game, that's where I bought it from.

Then you shouldn't have to install any patches, like GoldSrc said.

It may be that the advice you read about using patches at GameRanger might be old posts or advisories from the days before the Steam version of GRID. Might not apply at all to the Steam GRID.
