Patch 1.3 problem

I am unable to install the latest patch (1.3).
When I attempt at installing it, it says the following:
"Couldn't find an installation of GRID. Please ensure you've aquired this patch from the same source as the game, or try to reinstall the game."

I have the Steam version, but downloaded it from an external site. Since GameRanger needs GRID with the 1.3 patch to work, I tried getting it.

Am I supposed to download all the previous patches in order to install this one after?

Would appreciate any help, thanks.

I don't know how the Steam version works, but when patch 1.3 came out it only worked on a clean install. At the time (and currently with the retail, non-Steam game) if you had the game installed with an earlier patch it was necessary to uninstall the game, reinstall it clean, then install patch 1.3.

The thing is, I just finished downloaded GRID and after launching it a first time, I immediately tried to install this patch, and the error appeared right there.
Even tried to download the same patch from different places, but didn't help in any way.

The Steam version of Grid is version 1.3. It's kept up to date.
