GRID

GRID

Spyker c8
Just putting this out there.... Spyker races almost made me smash the controler off the wall.
Can't turn, and spin out at the littlest of touches.

I don't like how the cars tend to spin out so easily. I get especially infuriated by how opponents don't budge when you crash into them, yet your car gets completely spun out. If the opponents were more equal to you then it wouldn't be such a problem for me. Since the game does not have a qualifying lap, it loves to have us start towards the back so we have to play catch up every race. Thank god for the flashbacks.

The C8 isn't my favorite car in GRID, and it is frustrating in some races (I'm particularly thinking of the all-C8 race at Okutama), but it does up the ante. Don't take anything for granted in GRID. Not a difficult car to drive, but challenging to get over the track fast enough to be certain of a podium. When a C8 race comes up, it's "Oh oh, time for some more practice."

As for the perceived relative weight of the player's car and AI cars, I've always appreciated that in GRID the player's car was sometimes the smasher and sometimes the smashee. It seems quite balanced to me.

I tried a game pad once thinking that according to the forums at least, it seemed to be the way to go. Gave it up forever after an hour or so. Didn't get that DNA I guess. Keyboard works just dandy for me. Read a review of the new Steam controller yesterday and was not impressed. Everybody has a keyboard. Treat it nicely, play with it, feed it, love it, WIN with it.

I have a Saitek P2600, sure i've had it since about 2003. I used to use Keyboard and mouse way back when..
Got some vouchers from work so gonna be an Xbox controller cause simpley there is no one els eon the market except logitech.
I've also played Grid for years but got to the top race events then had do a re-install of windows or some other thing and lost the saves etc.. This time i'm gonna beat the bloody game! i hope.
Atleast i'm passed the C8 races now :-)

Ps. i only use the Pad for racing, i have no idea how people FPS with it! Mouse and Keyboard ftw.
Whether or not you actually spin out like that depends on lots of factors, it's not as simple as "the computer cheats". I'm currently playing with driving assists on (and no stupid flashbacks) and I don't see any particular issue with collisions or their aftermath, nor does the C8 give me any trouble.

My gripes with this game: the computers tend to get at least a tap somehow no matter what you do, and the warehouse tracks make me very angry.

You're talking about the Yokohama dockyard races? They're pretty brutal. But I've found they generally succumb to my charms after lots of practice (like most of the tough stuff in GRID). When you can blast through the twistys at near flat out and not nick any of the sharp and immovable yard ornaments scattered around the joint - you've got her beat. It's scary enough in a game; can't imagine what it must be like for people who actually race in such places.

Drift on the game is extremely easy. This one single long drift, in the Japan docks i've had over 3million. One drift is good enough to beat the hardest opponent on the hardest level which is silly.
