Man, it's so fun when you enable that and start behind everyone else lol.
It had been a while since I last played Grid 2008 and last time tried I could not get my current wheel - TS PC Racer - to work. However today the gods were favorable and I could finally map my wheel.
I was shocked at how much better Grid 2008 actually is, better than all the titles that came after it, although some of those are better than others.
Grid 2 is the best arcade experience, Autosport came close to being a decent racer with plenty of tracks. Visually both looked better than Grid 2008 in many but not all areas.
After some tweaking of my wheel I ran a couple of races, both were far superior as an experience. Driving the classic Ford Mustang on the streets of San Francisco felt like the real Grid experience, close the walls in a heavy car which really had weight, you felt it in the jumps, you felt it in the turns, including believable counter steer corrections.
The second race BMW TC on Hockenheim.
This one was the biggest shock. I remember Grid was fun in TCs and GTs, but I had forgotten how good it actually is. The AI was really fun, a little rubber banding, but believable and there to keep the challenge fun. I don’t remember having so much fun mid pack, constantly fighting for position and having to defend, slowly gaining the forward field and finishing fourth with a sense of accomplishment - not less than when racing in iRacing. The AI ran an aggressive race I swear at some points dirty, but what a f-ing fun experience.
I’ll run some extra tests on G2 and GA to compare.
In comparison G2019 just wasn’t as much fun - except maybe the Minis.
Spot on, take away the bloom (mod) and it is still the best casual racer. With a steering wheel it is greatly balanced, fun but still recognizable and intuitive FFB, handling and physics. Proper mix of fun and authenticity. Highly recommended.

Glad I now have my current wheel working, it is still my favorite casual racer and I’ll return to it every now and then for a couple of laps.
I feel something not right in this game
