Cornering
I'm playing this game with my xbox 360 controller. All of the driver assists are turned off, and the difficulty level is set on maximum.
I've managed to beat something about 30% of the game playing this way somehow, but I still do not understand how the handling model works in this game.
The situation is that I drive the same car as my opponents do, but I can't pass corners as tight as they do. I just can't. Even if I follow the same trajectory and maintain the same speed it all ends up in the way wider cornering of mine, and I just get off the track or crush into the fencing. To avoid this and corner well I must the way reduce car's speed which results in a critical losing of my position.
Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I need to push acceleration or brakes in some way while turning? Or even use the hand braking?
I would be grateful if you give me some pro tips about this one.

I don't think you do anything wrong. For me, game was unplayable with all assists turned off. I could not even start because when I hit gas car started unexplainably spinning around. When I used less gas to prevent that I lost time and 2 cars got in front of me.

Imho neither physics or AI in this game is realistic. Seems like computer controlled cars at minimum drive with assists turned on but more probably computation of their driving is simplified.

The steering is fine. The problem is actually that you don't have pedals.

To corner perfectly you need a perfectly balanced throttle which is very hard with 360 triggers and impossible with keyboard. If you push the gas even a little too hard you will understeer, and if you brake too hard you lock the wheels up.

Also thought about this when I saw Al drivers steering some kinda choppy. Or maybe that was just graphical/animation issue, I don't know.

Well, tried to drive with the stability assist turned on which is said to reduce understeer, and this dramatically changed things. Steering improved a lot, and I could pass corners at high speed with full throttle on a par with those sweet extreme difficulty AI drivers.
Am I still able to corner both that fast and that tight with stability assist turned off if I succeed in the throttle control? If I got this right, I have to use brakes and slow down before entering a corner, and lightly push the gas without touching any brakes while turning to get the best grip and handling without understeer. The problem is that I still haven't found that required amount of throttle with my gamepad but I hope it's achieveable for me. :D
P.S. Really not going to lower the difficulty or enable assists anyways. I'm excited in mastering this game, not just completing it easy way.

That's correct. Stability assist on allows you to use "too much" gas in corners without penalizing you.

That's how real racing is: you do most of the braking before the corner to slow down to corner speed just as you begin to turn, and you hold the throttle at the exact cornering speed until your exit point. That's the real life way to do it.

There is also something called trail braking where you finish your braking while turning by light braking in the turn to slow down the rest of the way, but that would be even more complicated.

Much thanks for the help! Now things look much more clear for me.
Hah, I think I still have my Logitech Formula Force EX lying somewhere. It's a pretty casual wheel, but maybe it still would be fine for this one.

Finally found the solution for this.
It's all about controller. And no, throttle control wasn't issue there. Handling was just wrong in some reason with my x360 gamepad. Handling is WAY MORE intense when I play the game with my wheel.
It's just technically impossible to be that good playing with my x360 gamepad with no stability control. Cars just don't turn with the max possible intensity.

I found out that the game is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ buggy.

I toyed with several settings on gamepad, and found out the game with assists off has some weird physics that doesn't apply to the AI (in fact I believe the AI cheats)

One thing I noticed was that changing "linearity" made no change at all in the controls, the "saturation" helped a lot, at 100% even at first gear my car would make some corners, but at 40% I can actually turn with assists off, but nowhere near the AI... seemly the steering wheel only turns exactly as portrayed on the cockpit camera (only halfway to one direction, the character never do a 360 turn of the steering wheel, and seemly your actual wheels never turn much far either).

With assists on the game is more playable... still incredibly buggy and frustating though, like, hit one single wheel outside the track, and suddenly not only you slide, but you slide FASTER, as in, your car SPEEDS UP while sliding, even after letting go the accelerator.

The physics in this game is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.
