Instinct worth upgrading ?
Hey guys im like 5 hours in and leveling strength and instinct. So far I have seen much more progress from leveling strength and not that much damage increase from using insight weapons like the pistol. I like the idea of using a gun but do they get better?

personal suggestion: go str the next, there is a good instinct side arm you can buy later, but you won't really always using it as it costs bullets. With str you are using that good eternal great sword, which is op, and if you want, put points into dex once you have your str capped (its 50) and you can use a reaper whos special attack really fast and thus you can switch to it if you want.

the softcap is 55 not 50. and its not a hardcap. but yeah going past 55 in any stat aside vit seems not worth it. but that greatsword will probaly get nerfed. its just too good for how early you get it.

str cap is 60 (in between 50-60 is soft cap giving +1/+2 dmg). it worth max str to 60 and mind to have more focus for weapon arts.

If you parry or have an instinct scaling weapon, instinct is good. But if you ignore parry like most smooth brains here, you can hulk smash everything with Str weapons.

Problem is resistances, i left dexterity too low and had problems with fire bosses. Str is pretty good, ice damage goes all the way to the final boss. Instinct is lightning, theres is only one boss with that damage, the one with the fire ♥♥♥♥♥ with him. Dark resistance is a must have too, as is blood.

I tested using the frost blade +2 (Str/Dex/Mnd scaling) and using respec function after getting the teacup.

Findings:

- equal distribution between MND and DEX (40+ each) is least DPS option
- 55 MND and rest into DEX (20+) is beaten in damage by all in on MND (70+)
- all in on MND (70+) is beaten in damage by 50 MND and rest into DEX (30+)

- since STR had same scaling as DEX, there was no difference whichever I level (up to the 50 cap)

Conclusions:

- multiple scaling weapons will have best damage at high levels
- to maximize damage potential when levelling using multiple scaling weapons, reach soft cap of 50 first on primary damage stat and then move to another damage stat

Theoretically you could do an Instinct playthrough where you rely heavily on things it boosts, primarily guns and throwable items, but in this game you're always going to be relying on your weapon no matter what. Therefore, the best 'build' is always going to be str/dex which pivots to a supplementary specialization later.
