Why is multiplayer locked behind a lengthy campaign?

Am i missing something? i don't seem to be able to host a multiplayer game with out completing the campaign?. This is rather frustrating as i expected we could all jump in a server and play.

Yes I know you don't have to do the whole campaign. This was discussed here before, try searching the forums.

Nothing gets deleted, as far as I know.
I'm sorry I can't remember the solution, I just remember there is one.

Searching for "multiplayer tutorial" I found this. It doesn't solve your problem but at least we learn something more.

This workaround is an old one. An option to skip the tutorial completely has been introduced shortly after the initial release via update. There is a dedicated button to do so.

Anyway, if you are new to the game, jumping into muiltiplayer directly may result in beeing lost without knowing how things work. So, playing the tutorial is still recommended ;-)
