I regret ironman mode.
I chose ironman mode, but I regret it. I have to say to Jeanne that it's "an illusion". I just stopped playing. Please, is it possible to load an old save somehow?

Not on Ironman mode. You continue where you left off and no take-backs.

You can replay chapters altogether if you are not on ironman mode though.

I understand the frustration. How much have you played the game? If you haven't done every career and their rebel/empire variant at least once, I think it could be a great help. It's incredibly easy break your balance, so having an idea what's coming up is generally helpful.

I restarted the game and played without ironman mode. I'm really glad, because I restarted the last chapter two times to get the best ending.

I know it's not the correct way, but I like happy endings, at least in video games, lol.

There's nothing wrong with playing with chapter restarts. This game requires a lot of experimenting, which just isn't possible with ironman mode.

True.

But there is a certain level of satisfaction in playing beginning to end in iron man mode.

My first playthrough was iron man mode and it was an inquisitor playthrough.

I agree, but most playthroughs are gonna suck when you don't have an idea what's coming. If the author wants to achieve good endings without that restraint, then they should save ironman mode for a future playthrough.

I suppose I just got extremely lucky then.

My very first playthrough, which was iron mode, had this as the end result.

I got the peaceful ending to the revolution. Family unity was maxed out and Gloria was adopted. The New Faith became widely practiced. Jeanne converted to the New Faith. Mother recovered. Nathan became a prophet.

You got a little "lucky". I played hidden consequences + ironman with a similar path (priest, new faith, family unity), and things started to spiral during the second half of chapter 4.

• Jeanne could neither be romanced nor converted — the initial romance scene didn't even make sense given that she was an old faith zealot w/ –2 relation ("distaste").
• Gloria was adopted, but Stephan fumed and fled
• Lydia died from the resulting heartbreak
• A single +2 event triggered New Faith followers to radicalize and murder the Patriarch.
• I rescued everyone (home, family, prominent figures) during chapter 5, yet subsequently lost everyone and everything because I was a single stat point away from replacing Sofia as leader. Had the option to join her and (presumably) survive, but didn't want the ruthless bloodshed on my New Faith conscience. Death by firing squad.
