Things tried:
--Logging in multiple times (over a dozen at this point over the course of literal hours, haven't checked in with him today yet).
--Un-linking and re-linking to Steam, then trying to get in.
--Un-linking and then trying to go in BEFORE re-linking to Steam.
--Creating a secondary account and attempting to login with that one instead.
--Verifying files.
--Deleting the contents of %appdata%\Local\PAYDAY3 and verifying files.
Every single one of those has resulted in the exact same error.
Reason? Friend has still been unable to get in, add a full reinstall to the list of troubleshooting. As such, he's returning the game as it doesn't work for him.
Good job, Starbreeze/Deep Silver, good job.
He contacted Starbreeze, they gave him a copy/paste "this should fix it" response without actually looking into what the issue was.... They then told him to contact Plaion...
Plaion LITERALLY sent him the exact same copy/paste response and didn't bother looking into it.
SHAME ON YOU! You ABSOLUTELY deserve the Mostly Negative review score. This game is riddled to the core with issues that are NOT there in the prior game. YOU chose to make this always online. YOU chose to force us to have these stupid overlapping accounts to login. YOU chose to force us onto dedicated servers. All of the negative press is a result of YOUR decisions, Starbreeze/Deepsilver. Garbage tier dev and publisher in my book.
The refund, by the way, did go through. He's unlikely to ever try Payday 3 due to this error as his account is likely now perma-jacked.
GG Starbreeze...
