I hope they don't try to tank Rockay City or other future heisting games which would have ramifications for the future of all heisting games.
Notoriety was a 1-1 copy of pay day, the heists, the mecanics.
they tried to spin in a little bit but it was very obvious, like the counter strike copy on roblox and many other games
you wouldnt even need a law suit for this, the devs of Notoriety would have sued starbreeze if they had been taken down unfairly
The sole reason why they backed out on it now and licensed Notoriety is because they are THAT desperate for
And honestly, this will actually be the only way for them to stay afloat with how aggressive mtx can get in Roblox. It may even give in a bigger profit than PAYDAY 3 ever did/could.
Regardless, they're not doing all this because they give a ♥♥♥♥ about you, they're doing it because of PD2 nostalgia everyone in the community seems to have as well as the "just let them cook it'll get better in 2-7 years of updates trust me" mindset.
Starbreeze knows about this and it is literally what they are using against you to exploit you into giving them more money, just accept that it's not Starbreeze that made PAYDAY great but OVERKILL and move on to Den of Wolves which is made by, you guessed it, former OVERKILL devs whom designed PDTH & PD2.
Also just because PAYDAY 2 is 10 years old and still continued to receive updates is not an argument, PD2 did well from the very beginning even without DLC or content updates and PDTH proves that further too. All thanks to OVERKILL.
PD3 is 100% made by Starbreeze alone and it never had a period of doing well.
If you want something to change for the better stop giving the developers your money thinking that "it'll help", it won't. Starbreeze literally stated that all money that goes into PD3 will be spent on PD3 so it means that the development is solely funded by the few people who still choose to lie to themselves and waste money by the "just wait until it gets better in a decade" mindset mentioned earlier.
Yup. Spot on.
At this point they should sell the PD IP to another studio. PD3 is dead and can't be revived. That new studio that buys the IP could turn the series around with PD4.
Even if Notierty devs would do the same doesn't justify abusing copyright. On the graphics style alone, this is a completely different game. Any heisting game is gonna have a bank robbery, jewelry store robbery, art gallery robbery, etc THESE ARE ICONIC FROM MOVIES and real life. You shouldn't be able to copyright that because it stifles new games from coming out.
The Payday 3 mechanics aren't anything special to begin with since it's based on many iconic robbery movies plus skill trees which almost every game has. If Notierty re-used the Payday name, it's specific location names, specific 1 to 1 maps, and exact heisters I would understand but this looks like a generic heisting game. I agree with the above that Starbreeze is desperate for money as a last fight against bankruptcy.
This is still an abuse of copyright and whoever's next needs to put up a fight!
I'm sorry but where's your critique (ie: explanation for why EACH of the points made there is false)?
I'm sure that they probably wanted to do Fortnite instead but had to settle for PUBG. Possibly the fortnite devs thought payday was a little much for Fortnite which is trying to be more family friendly than pubg is.
