Payday 3, your opinion.

In the past, I played a lot of payday 2. I really enjoyed. Just bought a payday 3. Online is so dead... Should I keep payday 3 and expext some improvemets in game and player base in the future or just refund it ? Your opinion ?

You shouldn't listen to the very few people whom chose to stay with the game out of very poor taste and no self-respect.

Everyone with a realistic view of the game had left as soon as they realized they were lied to.
The reason why the game is slowly climbing with positive reviews is because no one would even bother to buy this just to leave a negative review nor would bother to stay around to give feedback for discussions like these- therefore youre in an extremely biased environment here.

I'm probably not the right person to answer this question but I wanna give my opinion anyway. Personally, both Payday 2 and 3 are games I enjoy playing in 2 player co-op with friends. I have two friends to play them with so the online could be completely dead and I'd still have fun.

With that said, there's another co-op series I enjoy specifically for full public lobbies, which is Killing Floor. I didn't like KF2 as much as KF1, but I think I'm going to like KF3 more than KF2. I don't know if it's your kind of game, but it might be worth considering both and seeing which one you like the most.

But my gut feeling to answer your question is that if you've played Payday 3 and you feel that the online is dead, it might be wiser to refund if you're not having fun with the current state of the game. There's gonna be sales and stuff later so you can always check back.

Its been two years and still a mixed review. They can't recover. This will not be another NMS story. Get your money back.

I also played a lot of payday 2 and I pre ordered payday 3 (Gold Edition) in the hopes it was going to be at least as good as 2. This was my first ever pre-order and has made me reluctant to do so ever again.
Over its current life PD3 has not really changed that much, the major change being how IP is earned. On launch it was a challenge based system which meant sometimes you would earn no IP for completing a heist, they quickly got rid of that in favour of the more traditional earn per heist completion with a couple of factors including whether you get all loot and whether it’s completed in loud or stealth. More recently there has also been a Armour overhaul, named Armor 2.0, it basically brought back PD2’s armour regen back.

Whilst you’re correct to a degree in terms of the online being ‘dead’, it comes down to purely personal preference whether you should refund. If you paid full price then I would consider it but if you’ve bought it on sale I think you should hold on to it just in case it improves.

Starbreeze have been able to pull away from Plaion, which should hopefully improve the quality of the updates going forward. My only concern is the CEO has announced that they’re actively updating Payday 2 again after it was considered ‘dead’ and was only going to have the basic security and bug fixes, but there has been more DLC considered for it.

After the Armor 2.0 update I started to enjoy the game, as on launch it defiantly felt like a game that was in beta, now it feels more like this is how it should have been on launch. Thankfully it’s not essential to play with other people, however it can take some time for people to join.

So with this in mind, if I was in your situation I would hang on to the game (providing you’ve not paid full price), who knows they might have a huge game changing update in the works.

Your definition of ‘cheap’ could be someone else’s expensive.
The base game is usually £24.99, not everyone has that much to spend on luxuries, whilst yes the game is currently £7.49 it won’t be like that forever, even then that little amount can dictate whether someone eats for a couple of days.

Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean others can, everyone’s situation is different.

I find it hilarious that, in 2025, Payday 3 has had three 60% off sales and two 70% off sales and they still can't break 3,000 players on Steam. Just lmao.

This shows the "heisters" have rejected this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trash ass game. If the game was good and worth playing, the game would have a lot more than just a few thousand players when the game has sold for $11.99 USD three times this year and has sold and is currently selling for $8.99.

The game averaged around 300 players right up until armour 2.0 so the 1000+ player count is very recent. Not only that the CEO has considered more DLC for payday 2 so says it all really.

Personally I’m enjoying the game now (mainly because of armour 2.0) but the updates still aren’t making enough of an impact to massively improve the game.
