The new skill system is horrible.
God, I absolutely hate the new skill system. Its so gutted and boring that I kinda lost mine intrest in this game. The perk deck system in Payday 2 is better than skills in this game, the fact that you can use only one line in which maybe 1 or 2 skills are usefull where most of them are laughable % boosts to some obscure things is bafling. I just know that on higher difficutlies everyone will be just using same lines because they are going to be a meta. Also I hate the fact that intimidating is once again a skill, it used to be a thing back in Payday 2 and then they made it avaible to everyone. Some skills in Payday 2 literally changed the way how did you played the game for example you suck at aiming or you are bad at headshots? Just pick body expertise and every shot counts as headshot. Or maybe you are good at headshots? Then just take a Sniper rifle and graze skill and every headshot kills multiple targets. You hate cloakers or tasers? Just pick counterattack for cloakers and shockproof for tasers and problem solved. You want to be a criminal mastermind? Pick a Joker and you can convert cops on your side. You are good at the game? Pick the most helpfull skills to carry your team. Or maybe you just want to have fun? Then pick melee based build, sentry only, gunslinger, or some kind of meme build, anything. Also the skills were neatly segregated and you were able to pick whatever you wanted.
And yes I know that skills in Payday 2 used to be way different on release, you even had to spend money on them but still they were way more intresting.

I'm not too upset with the skill system, but I really don't like how loads hinge on the three effect things: "grit, edge, rush" (from the top of my head).
Just feels a bit lame having half of my skills only activate based on whether I activate any of those effects - not to mention, those effects themselves are lacklustre (10%??)

I personally think having Grit, Edge, and Rush as base-level buffs that you can then build on top of with the skill system is legitimately cool and helps make the overall onboarding process easier than inundating new players with a really complex albeit flexible skill and perk system like PD2 did, though having to "research" the skills seems to make it actually harder to find the good bits inside.

I definitely want to get more experience with it and have more options to choose from, but one thing I do think is a bit disappointing is how most of the skills read like they make a lot less of an impact than Payday 2's did, and maybe that's a bit of a side effect of the new Grit/Edge/Rush buffs that a lot of the skills seem to be revolving around.

Some are pretty cool, like automatically retrieving ammo boxes when you have Edge which could then be synergized with the ammo handout or recovering armor on picking up an ammo box, but that's still nowhere near the impact you can have of getting a capstone in Payday 2 and getting something like Graze or Inspire.

I hope they will completely overhaul this thing. Payday 2 also had bunch of skill reworks and even completely new tree when Hoxton Breakout came out.

omg thank you! i completely agree, the skill system in PD2 is amazing, the skill system in this game is terrible. How on earth is no one complaining about the skill system in this game? It really surprises me that no ones complaining about this

It feels like they were focused on making things balanced but they forgot that its a PvE game so things doesnt have to be balanced and because of that the game lacks "fun" factor. Like for example I love taking inspire in Payday 2 only because your characters says "get the f**k up".

payday 2 skill system was awful, there are MANY mods tried to fix that. perk decks are just an illusion.

What was awful about them? you level up, you see a skill, pick it then you play the game. If the skill sucks then you just pick the difrent one. Simple as that. In Payday 3 if you see a skill that you like you have to grind in order to get it and if you dont like it or you just got bored of it you have to grind some more to unlock difrent one.

The skills in this are far better than pd2. You can sustain a good build with 7 skills as shown in beta, and with 3x that, you can make builds that work well in both stealth and loud. Feels way better than what we had in PD2, where you either locked into one set or you're basic in all master of none.

Thats the point. Its a PvE game, no one cares about the balance.

no, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of players care about it. there are tons of overhaul mods to fix that for instance. it's not fun to see everyone having same skills and weapons over and over again.
