But they are about to release a Year 1 Edition on Oct 30, again no idea what is the difference between that and the Gold Edition.
And they move into Year 2, no idea what does it mean edition and dlcs wise.
Welcome in the confusing DLC hell...
Have you try the standard game?, it was included on Game Pass.
In the current state the game ain't worth it and the heist DLC are lackluster. You will be throwing money.
Get the Standard, BUT BEWARE, the worth and long waiting update comes OCT 30, with voice-chat and browser to search for heist. I haven't read anything about HOSTING and kick people.
I honesly can't find any online match right now. The screen already kicked me out twise, server error, empty lobbies. Maybe if I enable Cross-play but they don't talk or cordinate or anything, it's very chaotic.
The currently avaliable "Gold Edition" will be renamed into "Year 1 Edition"
The "Year 1 Edition" is basically the base game, bundled together with all the DLCs that have released in the game's first year, hence, "Year 1 Edition".
There are four DLC bundles that have released during the first year.
Chapter 1: Syntax Error, Chapter 2: Boys in Blue, Chapter 3: Houston Breakout, Chapter 4: Fear and Greed.
A total of 4 heists, 12 weapons 16 cosmetic outfit sets in those 4 DLC bundles.
Additionally, the previous Silver and Gold Edition exclusive Silver Mask, Gold Gloves, and Laby Liberty Mask will be given to you, as well as a seperate 5 cosmetic outfits and 4 preset weapons, that were previously given as compensation to Silver/Gold Edition owners, when DLC pricing originally changed half a year ago, due to Syntax Error Bundle being ridiculusly overpriced originally, at 18 dollars.
But not the latest price changes. When Gold Edition's price was reduced from 90 dollars to 60 dollars, and they also renamed the Gold Edition into Year 1 Edition. And the bundle prices were reduced from 18/12 to 10 dollars each.
You know what, that is a little confusing. Huh.
And what's up with not being able to drop bank guards after 30ish melee hits with the butt of my gun? Is this normal?
Try to taste this game as a standalone game taking into account that something must've been reworked to fit modern reality. PAYDAY 2 is really old and can't keep up really, there must be something new to take a fresh breath into series and 3rd game has just that
I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten into situations, when I was new to the game, taht I didn't have a surpressor equipped on either weapons, and I couldn't kill a guard with hitting him over and over. Starbreeze REALLY needs to change melee and give it at least enough damage you can kill a security guard with. It doesn't have to be viable in killing SWATS by itself, but having zero damage is unacceptable.
But do you know what can you accomplish with the weapon butt melee attack? You can destroy wooden door handles. You can damage enviromental explosives and make them go boom. You can break glass. But you can't damage an enemy.
Putting faith into Steam is easier than to trust Starbreeze. Even tho after recent reception of PAYDAY 3 has been positive, it seems the game will have a full second year of support at least, and probably be supported up to the release of their Project Baxter game, and if that game also utilizes Starbreeze's servers, then PAYDAY 3 should also be avaliable to play.
But yes, of course, being able to play without internet access is something that the game should have, even if 99% of the playerbase likely wants to play online, whether with random people or with friends, thankfully they are working on it. After the offline mode is done. we just need a change from relying on Starbreeze servers and be able to play with peer to peer, to futureproof the game into the next decade.
