The developers seem to have abandoned this game
I'm a gamer from korea and I've thought about the current game status. I used translator, so there might be awkward sentences.

Starbreeze is just buying time by making useless updates to avoid being sued for scams. Instead of releasing the Quickplay feature or Crime.net that really users are asking for, they are posting about stupid stun grenades or interviews, because they don't have anything in development to show. They're probably going to release a few lame worthless DLCs and then end their post launch support claiming that they released all dlc as scheduled and assigning the developers in the new Dungeon & Dragon franchise game that announced last December.

It's just all my thoughts and guesses, and it might be just overthinking, but who knows?

Honestly, at this point it is hard to tell if it is malice /the case you describe/ or just pure incompetency.

Here's something I was thinking about...

Starbreeze might not be in a good spot financially. So I wonder if they switched their staff to part time, hourly pay in an attempt to reduce expenses. That combined with them outsourcing so much has made it seem like they abandoned their game.

This should be a lesson to other companies to never outsource.
Instead of them doing zero effort and enabling crimenet they're actually spending time developing the game and adding new stuff, which means the game is abandoned and they're only pretending to update it so no one can sue them. What would they even be sued for? Lol.

I know a guy that used to work with Starbreeze and help them find interns, apparently they said they don't want any interns anymore and that the company will most likely go bankrupt soon
wonder if they'll release their BG3 trendchaser trash as an epic exclusive to temporarily avoid the review bombing that'll happen the moment it reaches steam

I would buy the game, say the game is “pure f’ing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥” in my review. And then refund the game without playing a second of it.

Epic is pretty much done doing exclusivity deals like they used to as several developers and studios discusswed during GDC.
And with desperate need for money going exclusive on the Epic Store, also nknown as "the marketing black hole" would be utterly stupid. Even more so without any form of financial deal.

But all of this only gets relevant if the game ever gets released.
Remember the last time thjey had the opportunity to wotk on a big license? The ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up so bad that the game got delayed for several years, was complete trash and on release and sent the company into bancruptcy.
Why would anyone thing it will be different this time? And more importantly why would anyone grant them the rights to their franchise given their past "success".

That's a given at this point, when it takes them 6 months to put in an unready button it's pretty clear cut that they don't have much technical talent left at the company.

I wonder if they'll close up shop before or after they can deliver all the DLCs included in the season pass.

no it is always deliberate. people like to give companies / people / institutions / governments the benefit of the doubt when it comes to mistakes, but it is always deliberate and assuming incompetence removes fault to an extent.

they knew exactly what they were doing and they didn't a single ♥♥♥♥ about making an actual Payday game. they outsourced as much as they could, borrowed code from pd2, and threw together a game that is Payday in name only with new additions being lifted from other popular FPS games. we knew it was going to be ♥♥♥♥, they knew it was be ♥♥♥♥, the only people who thought it was going to be good were the shills and redditoids / normies.

this game will not be good as no care went into it. gaming as a medium for the most part is fundamentally dead. most games today are made with money first, appeasing investors second, and making a quality product third.

as many others have said on here they will likely abandon it after they release the three DLCs they are contractually obligated to release. these "updates" that aren't worse coming back to try out are just fluff to make people think this game has a future at all.
