DO NOT SUPPORT DEEP SILVER (the publisher)
"Paradox of Hope", a game in which a single developer worked on for 4 years was recently DMCA'd by the publisher DEEP SILVER (a multi-billion dollar company). The sole creator of 'Paradox of Hope' owns the intellectual property rights to the game. While the game drew inspiration from certain mechanics and visuals, it did not use any assets from other games, and thus, did not infringe on anyone's copyright.

Despite NOT providing hard evidence to support their claim, the game was de-listed from the Steam store. The developer suffered mental health trauma as a result and has no money to battle it in court (vs a mega company).

Research Paradox of Hope. Do NOT "buy" anything published by DEEP SILVER. Don't support companies that use their money and legal teams to actively ruin other people's lives.

Because the first is related to stealing. The other is related to non performance. One is crime the other is not.

Except the dev didn't steal anything, the crime is a false DMCA strike that the developer couldn't afford to fight against

Not for you to decide. Only the judge. Cannot afford find pro-bono lawyer, they love the PR game.

I did some research now and well... no offense at all, but it wasnt a very clever idea to advertise it as a "Metro-like VR Game" on reddit. As i dont like Deep Silver as a Publisher either, its clearly noticeable that someone tries to cash on their Metro IP. Looking at the pics and vids on youtube, that are also labeled with "Metro VR", its very easy to confuse the two games.
And no offense again, since Metro is, in my opinion, a very nice game, its more than understandable that they try to protect their multi-million Dollar Triple-A cash-cow from any damage.

So this time im actually Team Deep Silver, sorry.

Lame ahh argument from authority fallacy. And pro-bono lawyers don't grow on trees.

So if someone calls their game "souls-like," that means they are impeding on fromsoft's ip? And youtube titles is just low hanging fruit. But go off on how muh multi-million dollar company needs to protect itself from an indie dev making what can be described as an omage lmao

I agree. We should grow our own trees rather than take fruit from someone else's tree. Work on your own IP or work to find good pro bono lawyer.

In this case "souls-like" stands more for a genre of very difficult games. A game like Life of Pi has nothing in common with Dark Souls. But this game here plays in a russian metro, with enemies that also look very like Metro Enemies. And is advertised as some kind of Metro VR. So thats a difference.

So they own the Russian Post Apocalypse genre? And no, he didn't advertise it as Metro VR.
The Deep SIlver legal team went after it because they didn't like how similar it was to metro. It didn't break any laws. They just didn't like it. So they filed a cease and desist.

I always star to get a bit annoyed, when people star to state speculation, rumors and personal opinions as facts.
Even more so, when they are persistent at doing so.

So did your crystal ball tell you all this, or do you have deeper insights on either of the parties inner working?
Any hard evidence you might want to share?

Deep Silver made a legal claim, it is their responsibility to provide the evidence. The only reason they haven't been forced to because the indie dev doesn't have the money to continue forward. DMCA is a deeply flawed system and people have been echoing that statement for years.

The developer is innocent until proven guilty. Refusal to prosecute is not an admission of guilt.

Dude, quit grasping at straws.

Russian metro is a public domain.

The equipment used in metro are Russian guns and equipment from RL.

Absolutely shocking that if you make a game about Russian Metro and in Russian setting, they will all LOOK THE SAME.

Just like any modern shooter looks the same like CoD, because they all use the same western equipment. SHOCKING.
