The SG Compact-7 is also the best one as far as I know despite it having the lowest base damage because its armor pen stat is so much higher - as in it actually exists on it (unlike the Ziv).
If you're enjoying the SMGs then that's the one I'd back if you really wanna go all in on leveling one.
The ammo pickup value for SMGs doesn't really matter though. If you have to spend more ammo to kill an enemy than you would if you used an AK or the CAR for example, then it basically negates the pickup value. The pickup value is just strictly fixed to account for the additional ammo used.
Obviously if you've got great aim, SMGs might perform better if you can get quick hipfire headshots with burst fire, but then you could still get reliable headshots other guns as well. The SA A144 is basically a headshot machine, where it will one-shot most enemies reliably.
Basically this is a situation where yeah SMGs can perform well if you have great aim, but Rifles pretty much do everything an SMG does but better. If I have an SMG and need to kill enemies down the street, I have to run up to them versus just popping them where I am at a distance with a rifle, and at a safer location most likely.
Instead of thinking of the number of rounds as a "percentage", look at it in terms of the actual number of rounds.
An AR can be taken down with approximately 2-3 HS, while an SMG can be taken down with 3-4 HS if you hit it correctly.
and, replenished 4-6 rounds per Ammo Box for AR, but around 10 rounds per Ammo Box for SMG.
Of course, as you point out, there is the issue of effective range.
However, I like the fact that it reloads quickly and is "nice to use".
Well, sure, sometimes I get in a good mood and can't take my finger off the trigger even though I didn't hit the head, so it's just a theoretical figure. xD
Other's are alright and kinda fun.
