Weapon Names

Was starbreeze unable to license real weapon names? Why do the weapons have random names like the Styrk 7 when it's so clearly based off the Glock. Same thing with the reinfeild instead of remington.

Less unable, more likely just cut costs.

Really not that important and does save a hassle with paperwork.

They've used names like that before, it kind of has a minor effect of keeping a slight bit of world consistency, but also yeah not having to get licenses to use the name

Still curious why they changed the name from the Piglet to the Mamba though

Typically it is done to avoid lawsuits. Lots of companies apparently don't like their products being shown in a negative light (i.e. being used by terrorists, criminals, etc.) though I'd imagine just renaming them was easier than getting the proper permissions

This has been a thing since the first game, some firearm manufacturers actually will ♥♥♥♥ a company for using real names so I'm guessing the devs just decided to make it part of the series' vibe.

Quite a lot of games do that. For a similar reason you see green health crosses in games when they should be red instead, you apparently can get sued for using a red cross because of it being an international aid corporation symbol.

Some weapon companies rather not have their products being used in a Game were shooting cops and taking hostages isna good thing.

Many gun names are trad makers so you can't really use it with out the risk of being sue, only a few things (like Band Aids) names are to commonly used that it supersedes trademarks.

Guns are trademarked meaning they'd have to pay for it. The recent Modern Warfares do the same thing to avoid paying for trademarks instead of paying for worker hours, advertising, etc.
