Should I get Payday 2 first to see if I like it?

I found the Legacy edition online for like $11.

Payday 2 is always pretty cheap and the overall core gameplay is pretty similar
couldn't hurt to try it
honestly though right now I'd hold off on buying PD3 in general till they add more QoL

Yes. Just buy Payday 2, you'll have a lot of content to play through while Payday 3 is getting better. Or maybe it won't get better and you'll just have good old PD2.

If i were tying to explain, tonaly and and in terms of speed, PD2 is closer to saints row with bombastic action and fast pace, PD3 is more grounded despite being supposedly being games about gangs and crimes

Gamepass is a dollar cheaper and will let you try PD3.

And if you hate it, there are dozens of other games to play with that $10.

Right now PD2 is way better compared to PD3 since it's had 10 years of improvements and DLC. PD2 even launched with more content, more meaningful skill, and better mechanics. Hell, the devs couldn't even bother to put the stolen art in tubes like you're suppose to with loose art and they had proper tubes for art at the launch of PD2. It's just sad.

The Legacy Collection is pretty good. The reason they had Legacy and Infamous collections is because they originally stopped making DLC for Payday 2 and that stopping point is the Legacy Collection. They ran into some bad business dealings and had to start making DLC again to keep the lights on and the new DLC is where they first introduced suits and gloves cosmetics.

pay day 2 is better anyways if you like it stay there until pay day 3 figures itself out

If you're talking about the Legacy Collection from Humble Bundle, absolutely! that one still includes the Scrarface Character Pack which is a discontnued DLC that can be no longer be purchased from Steam or any other digital store.

Make sure to keep our thread updated if you do get Scarface from thier Legacy collection ;)

because they want to? I got into PD2 without ever playing PDTH and that didnt stop me from having an amazing experience. Besides, all three games play very differently from each other, just because you loved 1 PD game doesnt mean you will love all of them

Cause it's way cheaper and has several years of content. I figured if I generally like it I would consider PD3.
