Do you think Bain will make a comeback in the story?

Obviously his original VA probably won't, but he could still be recast. Or just referenced more. Shade has a throwaway line in the first little storyboard cutscene, though it doesn't make it explicitly clear which ending from 2 is canonical with regards to Bain's current status.

Wondering what everyone else is theorizing.

I stopped playing Payday 2 after the Whitehouse heist, but didn't that end with Bain becoming some higher being and also the POTUS, or was that just a dream sequence that never actually happened?

I'd like Bain to make a come back since I already miss him when compared to Shade, especially since other characters who could have been easily forgotten such as The Butcher came back.

I guess anything is possible if Payday 3 ends up being alive as long as Payday 2 did, lol.

Plot twist: it's going to be Bain who stole all our money. And after a mini-story of 6 heists finding where he is, reaching where he is and taking revenge where he is, he'll reveal it was all part of a plan spending it on our new Safehouse build underneath Central Park or something. Then he'll reveal some major expansion that costs $30 and adds another 8 heists...The Bain Pain Train pack. Something like that, anyway.

There are two potential endings.
Ending 1: You steal the pardons and Bain dies from the disease/infection/whatever.
Ending 2: The Secret ending. You kill the Dentist and Bain uses the powers of the temple to transfer his mind into the body of the president who then claims that the Payday Gang is dead.

Given how the crew has ended up in their current situation, I'm thinking the Secret Ending is actually non-canon (and so is all the supernatural stuff). So it's the first ending (or a 3rd "ending" we're not aware of and the first ending is also non-canon). After all, powerful people come after the Payday gang whom would be presumed dead in the 2nd ending.

I think either could be handled well. Payday 3 seems to want to establish a more serious tone, but most live service games loosen up after a while and get more wacky as time goes on.

I'm kinda thinking both endings might be a non-canon fever dream equivalent to the nightmare heists. Bain succumbs to the infection, we grieve, and try to move on. Then these people we've wronged comes after us and because we're still criminals (not presumed dead, not given pardons) and with international law changes, our assets end up frozen and they tried to take the gang out. Which brings us to the events of Payday 3 where we try to reassemble what can be of the gang and enact revenge on those figures.

I think that'd probably qualify as the worst heist ever.

He gives you instructions on where to find the instruction for the engine in his drunken stupor. In order to get the clues though, you have to craft Meth in the building 3 blocks over while fending off an assault by NecroSwatVans that deploy Tear Gas.

I think the canon is that Bain dies after the gang gets the presidential pardons in the White House heist. He dies because Murkywater, in the Hell Island heist, injects him a virus or a poison or something like that. So logically he couldn't come back according with the story in Payday 3.

Unless Starbreeze rewrites the story in which Bain fakes his death and makes his glorious return haha xD

Was it Viklund that voiced Bain?

If that's the case, then yeah I doubt he'll return as the VA again so Bain should probably stay dead. Even if they brought him back with a rasping, messed up "barely survived and not without cost" voice to cover the fact it's a different VA, it wouldn't be Bain anymore, lol.

Never thought I'd hear myself say it, but I definitely miss him. His constant reminders to pick up the drill, and how mellow he was generally. With that little hint of grainy static too. Better technology aside, I feel Shade's voice is far too "clean".
