Overkill not Developing?
Recently in an article on IGN it was stated that “ [Correction: Following the publication of this article Starbreeze reached out to clarify a few details. Starbreeze is no longer looking for a publisher for Payday 3 as they will be working with Plaion and their Prime Matter label. Starbreeze is also developing the game completely in-house without developer Overkill, and as development has progressed the game is no longer set in a "living, enormous representation" of New York City”. So this means two things? Overkill won’t be working on the actual game which I find quite interesting and the whole focus of using Unreal Engine for a “living, enormous representation” has now changed to what? Will it not be living or enormous. I look forwards to what hopefully devs have to say or any other Heisters!

Considering a lot of the original devs aren't working on this just makes me super skeptical this will be anywhere as good as 2 was. I'm not trying to be pessimistic but it's super worrying

Look, so far we don't know much about the game. Hopefully it's gonna be amazing!
won't lie going with Prime Matter as a publisher is a very weird choice

They most have lost ownership of the Payday Franchise in the bankruptcy, I remember them outright buying the Payday Franchise ownership from Starbreeze was a thing they were really proud of at one point.

From what I've heard and read Starbreeze and Overkill are basically the same company, so it's hard for me to imagine that Overkill was unrelated. I dont have full knowledge of their internal organisation at this point tho

Did you even read the quote? Starbreeze didn't say they are the same company, they said they are not using Overkill because they are going completely inhouse with their developers.

I did. I've also read how Overkill basically bought Starbreeze many years ago and took the lead.

That's quite interesting tbh... but we'll have to see in the coming half year on information and updates. I just find it odd that Starbreeze said Overkill is not a part of the development... also to not forget the whole aspect I mentioned of no "living, enormous representation" of New York City”.

Overkill never bought Starbreeze, what they bought was the ownership of the Payday IP that previously belonged to Starbreeze. It would seem they lost ownership of the Payday IP during the bankruptcy following The Walking Dead incident though.
